Next step for 511...

In the ongoing saga of getting this 511 to perform, it is time to try and maximize what I've already got. Then once that is done, go to the bottle.

The plan is to try and find another .5 seconds on engine, then see if the bottle will net another .5 seconds. If I could get this thing to run at 7.1 ish in the 1/8 mile that would really be something at this altitude. In fact, using the NHRA correction factor for Denver, which is still 800 feet lower than us, it would be about a 6.88 at sea level.

Some of the things on the list to do is:

Find out how high I can hold the RPM prior to launch without creeping through the beam. I'm thinking that having the engine RPM up will cut a bunch of time.

Find my timing curve and fuel. I still don't know which grade of fuel this engine likes best.

Find my optimum shift points. This is gonna take quite a few runs to figure out.

I'm also going to balance my rolling tire diameters all the way around.

If I don't get the times I'm looking for, then I'll get some smaller, lighter, street tread tires for the strip. That should be worth some time as well.

After that is about 160hp of bottle.

This should be a fun summer. I'll keep you guys posted as I work these things out.

So you are not coming down for Ford Fest???

http://www.bandimere.com/events/event_detail.php?eventID=132&dTargetDate=06/01/2007

It's kind of boggling to think about those 38" TSLs spinning up that quick, going that fast on pavement. What ever happened to that "eating popcorn" smiley?

Scoot, How big of stall did you end up going with? and you might want to try a line lock or a trans brake to stop rollout... Or try a different master cylinder for more line pressure...Just some thoughts..

A trans brake would certainly allow me to spool up better, but I don't have enough money. I'll just have to foot-brake it the best I can. My converter was supposed to stall at around 4000, but watching the tach as I run it seems to sit somewhere around 6000 for most of the run. I'll pay more attention next time.

Well Brian just out of curiousty..Do you remember what rpm you launched at? and I take it that you let the tranny do the shifting "IF" it stayed at 6000rpms thru the run?

I'am just wonering if the verter is to tight?? It shouldnt be at 4K...I think you said before the motor would still making HP at 7K...So if thats the case the short shifting is causing you ET right off the bat...

But with that said tho..the tighter converter will give you more MPH.. But as we know..its not how fast you ..it who gets there first...LOL

I was only launching at around 1500. I'm thinking I can hold the brakes clear up to around 4000, but I'm not sure. Also, it's a manual valve body. If I don't jerk the handle, she don't shift!

Shoot Brian, at 1500rpm you were just playing with it then..with a 4K launch you'll knock the hell out of your 60 ft. times...and probably run a higher rpm thru the traps too..

Chit Bro ..you have alot left in it...that was just a teaser run...your sand baggin on us ! LOL..
