Here is a crazy scenario for you guys. I bought a home made trailer a while back that was made from a mobile home. The guy used the frame, coupler, and two mobile home axles to make it. It's a very sturdy trailer. The only thing I am not totally crazy about are the wheels. Yes, I know they are rated at 2500 lbs each but should one go flat it would be hard to find a replacement. I've checked the state law and there is no law against using mobile home axles under a trailer. But, my question is do you think it is possible to convert the hubs to accept a regular or standard trailer (or car) wheel and tire? If not I guess I'll just have to stock a few spares just in case.
Call a mobile home place, I can almost guarantee you that they have a bunch of tires and rims around that they would sell you. My dad has a trailer that was built over 20 years ago with mobile home axles. He has never had a hard time finding tires.
i cant remember what year mabe 74 dodge 3/4 ton 2wd front hubs fit most trailer house axles.it was something weird like that when i had my 1st trailer back in the day(20years ago) we swaped 8 lug hubs to the house axles

Dexter sells kits to convert the axles to 6k 8 lug axles. Though considering the cost, it is cheaper just to put new axles under it. If you search the towing forum more info is there.
Going through the same problem with my car trailer. Looked into getting different axles and springs (would go to 2 axle instead of 1 axle brakes) cost would be around $1000. It was a lot cheaper to have 2 tires and rims to use as spares. I made up a mount and stacked them on the tongue. The mobile home axles are tough enough, it's the tires that say "mobile home use only" that the DOT guys don't like.
