Hi, I don't know if this belongs in this forum, but I need a question answered. My parents have a 60's Airstream Land yacht trailer that they want my boyfriend to haul to a piece of property that they own about 2 hours away.
My question is, will an f-150 with a straight 6 (for full details of the truck see trueblue_79's profile) be able to pull this trailer? I think the trailer is about 20-22 feet long. The GVW isn't posted on it, and my parents aren't sure what it is either. When we bought it, the people brought it to us behind a little toyota pick-up, but they only had to pull it a few miles. Thanks for your help!
Airstreams weigh almost as much as regular trailers. It's the lower center of gravity and aerodynamics that's their claim to fame.
If it's a 22' it's probably a Safari, very popular in the '60's. The GVW was around 3,300 lbs. in the '60's but grew to around 4,000 lbs. in the '70's.
Should be able to pull it fine as long as it's not loaded down with gear too.
The get up and go seems covered--make sure you have the brakes to slow it down. Half tons are marginal at best on brakes, IMOThis thing should have trailer brakes--make sure they work.
