Give me a break. I just opened my mail and received a ticket for a Red Light (camera) Violation. The light as I was making a left had been Red for 0.35 seconds. Give me a break. Just yesterday I was sitting a a red light that had been RED for at least 3 seconds and a "Chevy" driver blew through it at at least 60 mph.
I on the other hand, entered under a green, someone was making a right into a gas station and slowed traffic down. SOOOOOOOOO, it had turned yellow and red for 0.35 seconds while my tail end was maybe three feet into the intersection.
The pictures show I was though the intersection, oh, but the rear of my truck had not crossed the white line in the road.
To appeal, I will need to blow off two days. This my friends is BS.
The traffic law as I know it states yellow means "clear the intersection" to which some think they are supposed to enter it. Unfortunately, sometimes harmless things turn major.
I am very cautious around red light cameras just for the reason you mention.
Document everything at the time and if you get the dreaded ticket you are prepared to fight it in court.
Dennis, It is not worth the two days lost to save the $70.00. For that very reason, they make it difficult. Shoot, to pay with a credit card I have to go to court and pay.
Damn, I hope the movement to remove them builds more momentum.
berkad, wont your insurance rate go up, since it was a moving violation?
Maybe you should fight this BS ticket.
Something to think about.
Yeah, its not really the $70 that you'll be saving fighting it but the $100's of dollars u'll save on insurance. A buddy of mine got a ticket for like $50 bucks (can't remember for what right now) and he thought he would just pay and forget it, his insurance went up almost $200 a year.
They are springing up likes weeds here, but they cause people to slow down.
The ones that we have here do not look at the turning lane also we have a red strip on the road that 1/2 of the vehical must be past to not get the violation.
Dang we got it nice. Here you just have to enter the intersection during yellow and it will get dismissed. I got one a few months ago and paid by credit card online.

i was thinking that moving violations to cause a step in your driving record to go up, would come from police pulling you over, citing you,and having a court/conviction date

Reason: added
We have added 2 on our city. Tourist and local traps. One is at the on/off ramp at the interstate. Used to be a yield sign, changed to stop.....locals are used to keeping traffic moving - SURPRISE send the $70 to Ohio .....One buddy told me that if you show up to court and refuse to pay, they dismiss. The city pays the camera company, and they're not paying for them self...I avoid both intersections...
they installedd them in my town at a few intersections. they claimed it was to stop red light runners though there has never been a problem with it here.
but it came out it was just a money making thing, though no one ever admitted it openly, after they installed the cameras, they shortened the yellow light time with it. the speed limit is 45 mph, i guess they either wanted people to lock up thier brakes to stop, or just continue through the short yellow light when it turns red and get the ticket, hence more money for the city.
but after very vocal complaints, they changed the yellow light time back to what is was originally and no complaints after.
where my mom lives in west palm beach, fl, they need the cameras everywhere, and heck, they just need all the roads montiored because all the idiot drivers down there, the hatians had a cool scam going for awhile where they would pull right out in front of you then stomp on the brakes so you would hit them and try to make it like it was your fault.

I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time . Just to let you know, my buddies ticket wasn't from a camera, I just kinda figured that a ticket from a camera and a cop were the same thing and carried the same penalties.

That might be called a "Swoop and Squat".
It's when a perpetrator abruptly swoops in front of a car and quickly squats or stops.
An accomplice moves to the side of the targeted victim to prevent the trapped car from swerving out of the way.
The passengers of the squat car all report injuries that are supported later by a doctor or a chiropractor that are in the scam.
