Here is my take on this. While I do agree with the cameras, I also believe they can be tweaked, and the only way that will happen is by people going to court. If you don't explain what happened. Then there isn't any flaw in the system. You all preach on how you have to stand up for your rights, and look what is happpening to this country, blah blah blah. So, here we go. It s just easier to pay the fine.
Am I wrong?

A little trick an old trucker told me about, that does work I have used it, if you get a ticket go to the court house and file for a trial by jury. It is your legal right. The thing is 99% of the time the DA is not going to select a jury and tie up a court room for a trial over a traffic ticket. I used it on a speed ticket and got a letter stating that everything had been dropped. Court dockets are so full that they cant get to real cases. Now occasionaly you might find a hard %$& DA that would let it go to trial, but it is doubtful. They cant charge you any more court cost than traffic court, but they have to pay jurors about 25.00 per day. 12 jurorers at 25.00 would be 300.00 for a 70.00 traffic fine. It just about aint going to happen.

Yeah, and then you have to worry about the hard nose judge. There was a lady here in GA that fought a minor ticket, requested a jury trial. The jury found her guilty and the judge proceeded to throw the book at her. Jail time, probation time, maximum fine he could get her for, community service. If it was in his power to make her do it, he did. Granted some of it was overturned on appeal but she still had to pay fines and do some community service.

The cameras are actually designed to genrate revenue. We are a small city....the cost for the RedFlex system cost our city $4200 per camera(2) per month.

$70? $370 out here. I'm too mind-numbed at the moment to go back to your post, but check these sites regarding left turns etc.

http://www.highwayrobbery.net/

http://www.redlightcameratickets.com/

It seems like a lot of this is worked out of these, as these sites reference 2003 or so, but that doesn't mean the cameras all work like they are supposed to.

Scrool down on the first one for sure. He mentions left turns in particular.

I didn't google search your state, but try that too.

Can you get traffic school in your state if all else fails?

Good luck.

Sorry, I have to disagree with this.

The red light cameras are out there to hopefully educate the ignorant to drive according to the law or there is a good chance you will get a fine.

It's about hopefully changing people's attitudes around intersections to stop running red lights.

The resulting fine and income to the city is a great benefit that only ignorant people to the driving laws pay.

Don't run a red = No Red light ticket

Unfortunately there are circumstances that happen but we all get our day in court to plead the case if it happens to us.

The alternative to fines is to be the best driver one can be.

Spot on Dennis Red light cameras are the best thing in motoring in a VERY long time...you run one you pay…..PERIOD> the way it should be, you kill someone and you will pay also.

Mythbusters did an episode on this--none of the tricks worked for obscuring your plates for the cameras, short of actually covering up your plates (illegal).

I don't have a problem with traffic cameras. Speeding or red lights. If we're going to have laws, they need to be enforced to make them meaningful, otherwise, take them off the books.

Having cops write traffic tickets is silly if it can be done automatically by technology. When noone is breaking traffic laws, then the cops were already doing other things, rather than justifying their existence by writing tickets.

Maybe you should fight this BS ticket.

Something to think about.
No it is a "civil violation".

Again, I hate red light runners as much as the next guy.

This intersection is a long one to get through. Short light interval and when someone stops to turn right into a gas station (stopping first blows my mind) and stops traffic coming through the intersection, I don't get it.

I was all but a few feet from clearing traffic. The light was red for 0.35 seconds while my rear end was maybe three feet from "crossing the line".

I am just venting here. There have been many many news reports here on the Red light cameras. None of them show they have improved the situation.

I'll look for those archival reports.

Correct...here in Texas anyway. A red light camera issued ticket dies not show up on your driving record.

I also agree with Dennis. Red light running is an epidemic here in my area. As my youngest daughter enters into driver's training this week I caution her on this all the time and point them all out as we see them them.

I like the red light camera but, for safety it is a double edged sword. Fatalities are down as "T" bone accidents are down. However, rear end collisions are up due to "panic" stops.

Now the state has jumped on the band wagon and is requiring the cities to send them as much as half the revenue....that is the part that is total BS to me. Unless it is on a State Route.
