on my 86 4x4 5.8 HO when I picked it up yesterday the previous owner stated he swapped out the stock holley for a 2 barrel, performance sure took a hit but my question is, starving the engine like this will it burn the valves or other damage?
I called him and he says he has the orig carb, so I asked him to bring it over..
here is my take on this situation. If a vehicle comes out with a 4 barrel the engine is engineered to have the extra amount of fuel going into it. if it has a 2 barrel the same applies. If someone put a 2 barrel on a four barrel engine most likely it is for economy reasons or a 4 barrel carb in need of maybe a rebuild. If you want your performance back just put on the 4 barrel. I don't see any damage being caused by the 2 barrel.
Yes, that would be a good choice. I am assuming you have some sort of carb adapter on it now for the 2bbl? If not, you will have to get a 4bbl manifold for it.
Does the 2-bbl adapter set on top of a spacer or egr plate? If not, you'll need one. I wouldn't recommend bolting a carburetor directly onto a factory manifold.
