Blinking O/D Light

Blinking O/D Light
1997 Ford F-250HD 90,000mi ...
A couple days ago I noticed my check engine light would come on after about 5 mins of driving, and go off when i shut the truck off.
Today I noticed my O/D light blinking, speedometer not working, and milage reading not showing. The truck shifts real rough from 1st to 2nd. Is this a sensor? Anyway to clean the sensors?
I know I need to get the code pulled, But any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Since the OD light is blinking and the speedo doesn't work it is almost certainly the vehicle speed sensor. It's on top of the rear axle. It takes one bolt to remove and then it just pulls out. Sometimes they do get covered with metal pieces and cleaning it can fix it. Usually they need replacing. It should be well under $20.

I'm not sure if we have the same problem, but check out my thread from a couple of weeks ago.
BTW, I towed the camper again last weekend, and had no problems, meaning the OD light never blinked, and the truck pulled fine.

I ended up getting a second opinion from a larger dealership in the area (a friend of a friend), and there were no codes. They didn't want to repair or replace anything because even though the light was blinking, the truck was shifting normally. I'm going to keep an eye on it and play it by ear and hope it was a fluke.......
