Here's an odd question, but have you ever had to jump start your truck? There is a spike suppresson diode in the alternator which can blow out when jump started. When that diode pops it creates a ground loop because you have voltage back feeding through your charging system. In fact, it can cause quite a few problems with the electrical system. Just a thought... Also, what do you have under the hood in terms of a high voltage coil or something like that. Adding components like that will increase your chance of picking up some kind of interference through the stereo.
Alternator whine is our biggest enemy here at the shop...its a tricky creature that is tough to get rid off. Kind of like athletes foot. hahaha We sell noise suppressors however personally I think using them is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.
Oh yeah, how is the amp mounted? Is is screwed in the chassis at all? And how long is your ground on the amp? It should be as short as possible.
I'm glad grounding the radio helped a bit, I think you are on the right track. I wish I could see the truck and how everything is ran, but I think you are a bit far from me.
ok the amp is bolted to teh back cab wall, the ground wire to teh amp is aproximatly 12 to 14inches long, and as for electrical components under the hood: electric fan behind the rad to replace the fan off the motor and thats all... i donno if the truck has ever been jump started, i never done it but mind you ive only owned the truck for 2 weeks... and the deck never had a problem in my 78 that took it out of, tehre was no buzzing at all so tahts why i was thinking it could be that fan on the rad. i could send u pics of how everything is unde rthe hood via e-mail and how everythign is mounted.
try taking the amp of the back wall, since the amp is chassis grounded it might be picking up some kind of noise that way. When I put an amp in a truck I typically make a board with some spacers on it and mount that to the cab (actually if possible I avoid putting holes in the cab. If you have carpet up against the back wall you can put wood behind the carpet and screw the amp into that through the carpet and it stays put quite nicely)
since i ran that bigger ground from the deck to teh chassis, there4 hasn't been any static pick up from the door locks, the power windows, or even when my electric fan kicks in, but it gets louder when i turn on my neon lights inside the cab or any of my otehr neon like behind the grill. could i be drawing to much power for the alternator? if i run dual batteries would that maybe fix it?? and there is carpet on the back wall, ill just screw the wood to the cab withe existing holes and then cover the wood with the rug and mount the amp there
ur thinking to expensive and hard! lol. it seems like u have a ground problem. if it keeps getting a little bit better as u do this, that means ur on the right road.
where abouts are ur neons grounded?
obviously its a ground. if the grounds are all making it better. i dont really know what else to tell u man. just go over EVERYTHING make sure they grounds are all tight, make sure there not coroded. clean em if they need it
well i talked ot one of my cousins who ahd a dodge half ton before and he said his buzzed alittle when he through his deck in and steareo... i guess i'll suck it up and take the buzzing, and anotehr thing, how are nakamishi 12' subs?
