Kwiks air filter mod ?????????????????????

I installed the Napa/wix # 546637, 2 or 3 years ago, no problem, I read about dusting concerns here with the stock setup and and switched to Kwiks. Today at a diesel repair shop where I was having work done, the guy says that it is a terrible setup and I should change it as soon as possible because of dusting concerns and I am better off with the stock setup. I am very happy with this setup and I look in the intake hose and dont see anything. Has anyone had any dusting with this setup?

He's a knucklehead... pay him for the work with a rotten balogna sandwich if that's the proof of his knowledge - that filter was originally for a Cummins in agricultural (i.e. DUSTY) conditions, if memory serves - yeah, and have your dog 'mark' the sandwich too

I have had a kwik filter for a couple years as well. Ran them way longer than I should have. I went to trade my pickup in and they made a big deal that my pickup was dusted due to that aftermarket filter and made me pull the intake off to look at the turbo. Next thing I know I had the entire shop out there looking at my pickup. The shop foreman said that was the cleanest intake/turbo they had ever seen on any diesel, let alone one with 135k miles. Keep it and be happy/safe.

If you're taking the truck to a shop, you may be vulnerable to unscrupulous types that prey on others' lack of knowledge.

You need to seriously re-evaluate the abilities of that diesel shop if they are concerned about a 6637.

My guess is that they're planting the seed of doubt in your mind that they will later reap with a unnecessary turbo repair (if they actually DO it) and the subsequent bill for you to line their pockets with.

Gotta' watch people like this...

Well according to used oil analysis (comparing mine and Kris) the 6637 is within 1 - 2 ppm of the AIS on the silicon (dust) and the AIS is a superior filtration system. It may not flow the most but it is definitely one of the best at filtration.

I have the AIS but on the last analysis I had 3 or 4 ppm and Kris, on the 6637, had 6 or 7 ppm

I wonder if it would be worthwile to start a thread (sticky) listing shops like this. In fairness to the shop, the name of the technician working on the truck should be noted, and then that technician educated. Another thread with the 'good' shops could also be started. After all, this forum is for the sharing of knowledge and experiences, and I'd love to be able to know who the top shops are in an area. Then maybe if the owners of the shady shops found out about the thread (VERY important to be factual) they could see their rep and possibly make changes in staffing, or get some training for their people.

Ok, yeah so far I got 5 ppm of silicon and that is with my Volant intake and the Primo filter that it comes with. I will be running another sample again soon so we will see what happens.

Ok made me go look, last 2 of mine both with the 6637 filter and not having been changed show 5ppm, funny universal average is 10ppm, so the "bad"6637 is cutting the silicon in half. hmmm yep guess he's right need to go get rid of it right away, probably better just take the entire intake tube of the turbo that should get those silicon numbers up good enough

BTW, the local Ford garage looked at my truck for something else a month or so ago, the mechanic took one look at that filter and starts asking man where did you get that setup I want one it looks like it would really work. talked to him 2 days later and he had bought the filter and had it installed said when he took the stock air box off he was shocked at how much dirt was down in that tube as he had never actually looked in his before.
