anyone ever get hero status??

remember about a month ago when the 100 year old man was getting his face punched in, by the car jacker, and the bystanders watching.

then over the weekend we got a kansas girl getting abducted in broad daylight in a target parking lot.

im thinking whats this poor girl going through right now, (we know, but try not to think about it).

then i see last night they find her body.

im disgusted by things like this, sick people out there.

i dont have any children nor g/f, but i think about my sister whos attractive, and makes some stoopid decisions when it comes to guys.

im not looking to be a hero, but ill i have to say is if i saw an abduction, that person whos abducting doesnt want me on him like stink on you know what.

i see the poor parents faces on the tv, there only hoping that this might be a ransom at best, you know what shes going through, and then to be found dead couple days later.

i hope to never have to go through anything like this. teach your children to be vigilant at all costs.

A few months ago when I was still overseas, my kid and a couple of his friends were goofing around at a 7-11. They were being teenagers, wrestling around and generally just goofing off. Well, two of them grabbed the other and threw him in the back of my son's car and the act was witnessed by a few people, one of which decided to be a good Samaritin and followed his car while telling the police which way it was going. Anyway, 1 helicopter and three patrol cars were dispatched to my house... over a silly misunderstanding. No arrest, no guns or real excitement, but what might have been is a little scary. misunderstanding. kids being kids. You can't generalize. If I saw somebody beating an old man, I would stop them. If I witnessed what happened to my kid, I might have gone about it a little differently.

Oh, teach your kids/ wives/ women never to get into the car (during an attempted abduction) under any circumstances. No matter what, DO NOT GET INTO THEIR CAR! Once you do, your chances of survival are dismal.

Heroes are defined by many different events, actions, and characteristics. For instance...I consider both of my grown nephews to be heroes. One with 3 "War" tours under his belt in Special Forces...not to mention other venues. And the other nephew has 2 tours under his belt.

For reasons many of you would not know...our own Admin is one of my heroes.

The gentleman in NY that thru himself under a train to save a life is one of my heroes.

There are many others. All for much different reasons.

It is a cryin' *** shame though, how so many people will turn their pretty head and walk away. Leaving an old man to be pumeled...or watch a woman be robbed...or worse. But, will cross three lanes of traffic and cause an accident to avoid hitting a cat in the middle of the road.

We have heroes living all around us. One of my employees wife was buying gas in downtown Memphis. A carjacker jumped into her car & attempted to driveoff. Her 3yr old son was strapped in the car seat. A guy in the lane beside her pulled a gun & stopped the carjacker. He didn't think about it he just did what it took to stop the carjacker. He saved the day & got in his truck & drove away. He is a hero IMHO. Why more people don't stand up & act like this guy I don't know. I know if I saw something like the crook beating the old guy to steal his car I'd pull my gun & do whatever it took to stop him. If we ever want our country free of these scum it will take everyone getting the courage to do the right thing. The police can't protect us.Its up to us .

I agree that we should do more to look out for each other. If I were in the situations that some of you mentioned above, you can bet that I would do what I could to help.
We're all in this together and we need to look out for each other. How does that saying go, "if good men do nothing, evil prevails" or words to that effect?

If I saw something happening to someone I knew I would definatly do something that I might end up regreting later. If it was someone I didn't know I would still help them out just in a different way. I think we all gotta stick up for each other and those who can't stick up for themselves.
EDIT TO ADD: I think that most people are to afraid to stick up for people is for the fear that they will end up getting sued for it.

I have stepped into so many situations standing up for weaker people it's a wonder I haven't been maimed or killed.

My favourite was clothes-lining a thief running away from a cop back in the 70's.

(THAT) is the bottom line in todays world. Good people have less rights than the bad people.

I have told my wife and children, if confronted by an armed person, run for your life screaming and yelling. Most criminals don't have the training to hit and shoot a yelling, screaming, zig zag target while the shooter is standing still. Never mind while running after you and your chances are better running then a sitting target in a car 3 feet away.

You see this all the time in police videos where store owners and robbers blast away at each other from ends of counters and never hit each other.
