I saw something in the parking lot at the grocery store today that gave me back my faith in the youth of America (I'm way old at 25 now ). Picture if you will the skankiest piece of white trash 20 something mother walking through the parking lot with her baby (could not have been more than 6 months) holding it with one arm and smoking a cigarette. She was blowing smoke right in this child's face and the baby was crying. Her cell phone rings and she answers it, leaving the cigarette sort of hanging out of the corner of her mouth. This kid, maybe 15 (high school age) walks by and with a look of absolute disgust grabs the cigarette out of her mouth and throws it on the ground. He walks on w/o a word. She stops to pick up the cigarette (almost drops the baby, but not the phone) so the kids walks back, grabs it again and crushes it with his foot. She freaks out and he just walks away shaking his head. She starts cursing this kid out and yelling how she is going to call the cops until this old man tells her to shut the hell up and take care of her child. This kid deserves a medal. I don't degrudge anyone a cigarette but smoking inches away from your child's face, that is despicable.
That is so sad, and imagine how that baby will be brought up and raised. I would have shoved the cig and cell up her (_|_) and taken that baby home with me
Good for him....
<but even more so I praise the YOUNG men and women joining the military and doing such a great job under HORRIBLE conditions in Iraq....And the conditions in Iraq are bad....but it's the treasonous Media and politicions that are tearing this country apart from the inside that create the REALLY bad conditions !We ALL need to get involved - or else it WILL be too late!>
<!lol another edit huh? feel free to pm it to me i allways miss the good stuff....>ill tell u what though i was driving along and seen this woman who can only be described as "lower class" driving along on the interstate there was a 2-3 year old girl sitting in the back seat peering out the window as they sailed along....in the seat opposite her was a small boy maybe 4-5 years old and in the front seat another kid he was about 9-10 and ALL of them were free range kids.....NOT ONE of them were in a seatbelt or car seat....i got a 4 mo old daughter and that child is allways in her car seat till we stop at where we are going.....we ended up getting off on the same exit in Tampa and i was beside her at the light...so i rolled down the window and asked her "don't you think those kids should be in a seatbelt or car seat?" to which she exclaimed in a rather vulgar tone of voice "hey don't you think YOU should mind your own <!GODDAM*ED> business???" i was floored by her lack of concern for her own offspring...well i didnt have to get upset as i seen a female walking up to her car and i thought oh man here we go catfight....nope...no fight the woman was a detective who was 2 cars back in traffic and had apparently seen her on the highway and had a few choice words for her.....as for kids being good to people i have not seen too many kind who would even call 911 for you if you were hurt...too bad huh...to think just 20 years ago kids respected adults for their wisdom and experience

I will never understand not buckling your tater tots up. It makes no sense. I see "free range" (I love that by the way) little ones all the time. If I pull up next to them and their window is down I will get their attention and say "those are the cutest little projectiles I have ever seen" they give me that "huh" look. I am sure it takes them a while to get it. We have a rule in our cars we dont turn the key till everyone is buckled and belts pulled till they are tight and the belts may not come off until the key is OUT of the ignition. Kids have been trained that way since they were capable of understanding and now it is second nature.
As for the smoking thing that kid was way kewl. I dont know if I would have had the acorns to do that. I too hate people smoking around kids. It is really sad to see little kids in a car with the windows rolled up and the parent(s) smoking away. Looks like they are in an aquarium.
the smoking thing does bother me because its like this....your child is being exposed to things that YOU have the choice to avoid...they are too young to be able to say no
i get upset when going into a restaurant with my son and the host asks "smoking or non" as if there is a choice...did they not see my kid??
I don't dislike smokers or even smoking for that matter, being an ex myself, but with all the known evidence about second hand smoke, I find it hard to believe that there are no laws in place when children are exposed to this. for cripes sake, You can't even smoke in bars anymore.
I'm right there with ya on the smoking. Both my parents smoked when I was growing up, thankfully my mom quit after some health problems. Unfortunately my dad still does. Me, I get to pay the piper. I've got chronic bronchitis and decreased lung capacity from all those years of 2nd hand. I don't hold it against them, this was back before all the bad stuff about smoking came out fully.
I feel you mymachanic my pops smoked when I was really small, as a result I have asthma, and bronchial problems. I don't blame pops, luv that man, but it does kinda suck that I'm suffering for something he did.
Thanks guys. The part that really stinks is I didn't find out until I tried to get a job in LE. My bronchitis is so bad I don't think a department out there will hire me. No way I can sneak up on someone. And a foot chase would probably kill me when its acting up. So I pretty much wasted 4 years in college. Now I'm outta work and trying to break into a new field. Not an easy thing. Ah well. That's life I suppose.
Docs always told my mom that I shouldn't play sports cuz my asthma was really bad. I always listened, result was I was overweight, depressed, and I had trouble breathing. So I decided I would decide if I could play sports or not, so I started exercising, eating right, and I've had the asthma under control for about 3 years now.
Sorry to hear about your bronchial condition mymechanic.
fatman, yor're right. That kid DOES deserve a medal!
I smoke, but never around my kids (or wife for that matter). I even brush my teeth and wash my hands to get rid of as much of the smell as I can so the kids don't find out (wife knows). Seems kinda childish, but it's a stupid destructive habit and I don't want to encourage or even condone.
Your kids know. Strange how smokers think they can do things like those below and that non smokers won't know. The smell comes off your clothes, out of your pores and out of your lungs. In my case, I don't have a big aversion to the smell of cigarettes, but I can still tell a smoker every time.
