Got a buddy here in town who races locally. Couple weeks back I helped him put a new engine in his truck because his usual mechanic Rick, wasn't going to be able to help. I guess I should mention I have never been a huge race fan, but last year I got hooked hard. Another buddy got free tickets to the last race of the season and he invited me. I was hooked. Dirt, dust, loud engines, crashes, parts falling off cars, and that was just on the way to the track! Well okay, that was at the races...Anywho, this past Friday, I was in the pit with Ted and after his heat he came back and said he lost a cylinder. Left the engine running so we could try and see what was going on. I saw the number 2 plug wire was off. I could see it arcing to the frame. No big deal. We'll stick it back on when he shuts down. Rick, now known as Sparky, grabs the wire and starts to move it. The arc gets bigger. The arc gets to be about an inch or so long and decides it's easier to go through Rick aka Sparky than it is to try and jump to the frame. Onced he grabbed it, I knew what was going to happen, but I thought he maybe had some secret mechanical trick up his sleeve. Not really, but had a heck of a jolt up his sleeve. Hilarious! Anyways, wanted to share that story to see if it would drum up any more chucklers. For those of you who have never been to a local race, I highly recommend it. It's good therapy. I'm going to seeif I can get the VA to write a prescription for me to continue to go on a weekly basis. Then maybe my wife won't give me such a hard time about going...
I have seen that a few times. Always good for a few laughs. Listen for the howls when one of those sparks jumps from a sensitive spot back to the fender/frame when they try to back away...
I remember years ago going to training on the 7.3 powerstroke. One of the first things the instructor said was,See that wire loom with the red tape around it.DO NOT PROBE THE WIRES IN IT!If you do,you will weld your peepee to the fender!I about rolled out of my chair laughing, but his method got everybodies attention. His name was Mike Christman, and he was one of the best instructors I ever had!
I go to our local track every sunday night. Tonight was a special event, winged sprint cars, the sprint invaders,360 sprints(think world of outlaws type cars). They were doing the quarter mile in 12 seconds, that's about 3 seconds faster than the fastest cars(late models) that race here on sunday nights!! that's gettin with it for this track. Next Tuesday night,it's Ken shreader and Kenny wallace night in UMP late models(wallace might be running a modified)They will be scary fast compared to our late models because they are pretty much unlimited motor and our late models are IMCA regulated.I do support dirt racing!! watching prelude to a dream right now, cool to see all the NASCAR/other series cars driving on DIRT!!
I used to be involved with some buddies in a total weekend warrior factory stock team - great fun running a mangled pile of junk, loosely resembling a 73 Maverick!
We had plans to move up to IMCA after the beast finally died, but they never came to fruition, and everyone just kind of moved on.
im in the process of buildin me another dirt car , i have had 2 in the past year .... the 1st one i had was slowwwwww ..... so i give it to my bro and i bought me another one , it was a peice of junk .... so i found this 94 Ford Probe , DOHC 16 valve ... i race a 4 cyl class... and thought well i will just build one myself so i can do it how i want to ... all i got left to do is put gas tank back on it , and put a cage in it and paint it and through me some numbers and my sponsers on it ... then it will be ready to go ..... when i get it completed i will post some pics.
