I have a 68 390 with a 3 spd manual trans. The fork isn't retained by its spring clip, so i was wondering what method there is to use on the re-installation of the fork. If you have pictures, or advice, either will be greatly appreciated.
Nothing is broken, the spring clip is there, i think when he pulled the engine/tranny, it pushed it off its retaining point. I just need to see a pic of how the fork is supposed to be held in, or a description etc.
I tried to search out some pics. Lots of bell housing shots, none with the fork mount showing.
I'd have to look at it since it's been a while since I was into one of those. And if the fork is off its pivot point, I don't think you have any choice but to pull the bell and put it back together from the front.
I used to knock the throwout bearing off trying to install the trans. So, I bolted the bell to the tran first, then slid the whole mess on to the motor. Maybe you could back yours off using a floor jack. Hhhmm, but you have to pull the driveshaft and shifter anyway, and the rear crossmember.
Maybe someone else will chime in here. Can you put the fork back on the pivot from outside the bell? (that is the question, right?)
I've been able to position the fork but i'm not exactly sure how it is supposed to be on the pivot point, and how the spring clip is retaining it. The engines going in a 57 F-250...well its sitting in it now.
