Reflashing the computer

I have been told by some people that you can reflash the computer in our trucks from a 4.6l to a 5.4l by some people and told that i cant by others. Im really confused and it is the only thing holding me back from doing my swap right now.

Does anybody have any more information on this subject? Maybe a ford tech or somthing... I dont understand why they cant just put software on the computer... Im so darn frusterated right now with that..

Feel free to post anything that would help.. i might have to take it to an engine dyno and have it tuned that way...

Well just got off the phone with a neiborgh of myne that is getting a chassie dyno in and all the stuff he needs to reflash computers... hes also getting set up to do 4.6l and 5.4l swaps... kinda worked out perfict.. it should be in and running by first week of july...so this is good for me... we even talked about getting rid of my edge and using a flip chip with 6 or 7 custom tunes built in...

all for less than i spent on my edge.. its going to be sweet... he also does exaust there so i will be able to figuer out my exaust manifold problem as far as connecting the 4.6l system to the 5.4l..

I will post again after the engine is in and running hard...

LET'ER EAT........

You're being told no by peope that are ignorant to the way the control system works. All you need to change are the spark tables, and the displacement value that the EEC uses for reference to load.

Pretty much any shop is going to make you sign a release form for custom programming. I suspect its not liability they are concerned with, its inability. You'd think they would at least suggest keeping the donor 5.4 computer if they can't figure out tuning.

Well thats just it... i dont need the 5.4l computer because it wont work with my truck... i have a Coil pack motor and all 5.4l are COP... so the wiring harness all together is different.. which i could change. but it would be easier to just just my stock computer and harness. im pretty sure all the other connections are the same...

Do i need to use a 5.4l MAF sensor for a stock tuned 5.4l.. or will the 4.6l work just fine? What about with a custom tune?

You can use either MAF-doesnt matter. The tuner will have to make a custom tune anyway,so they can just change the transfer function of the MAF to match the one you have on the truck. If they don't know how to do that, then just politely walk away and find a tuner that can.

The tuner has the option of putting a OEM 02 5.4l tune on as well.. i was thinking of going that route and keeping my edge for now..
