Esof
....yesterday my truck started the "auto-locking hub" problem. I put it in 4H and the A/C stopped blowing from the dash and changed to the defroster vents. I switched it off, and after about 20 seconds it switched back to the dash vents. I tried this several times with the same results.
After letting the truck sit for about 30 minutes, I tried it again, but this time it locked in the front hubs, and the vents stayed in the dash position. I drove it this way for a minute, and switched it back and forth...still working.
After starting it again later that day, the problem started again. I am assuming it is the start of a leak somewhere.
My questions:
1. Where is the most common culprit to look for?
2. Does anyone have a schematic I can see to trace all the lines/components?
3. If it is the ESOF vacuum leak problem, would my A/C dash vents work at all, or only when trying to engage 4x4?
4. Could it be something else? (I know, doubtful)
I am keeping the factory ESOF, so please no replys saying I should get the Warns.....
Thanks for the help.
How many miles on the truck? Have you ever serviced the Automatic hubs?
More than likely your vacuum leak is at the hubs. With the ESOF shifted to 4WD and the vacuum leak, there is not enough vacuum to control the climate control dampers, so it defaults to the defrost mode.
Check your automatic hubs for leaking seals (common problem) and/or leaking, loose or broken vacuum lines running down to the hubs. Find the vacuum lines at the wheels and trace them backwards. Most likely cause is leaking seals at the hubs.
Good luck.
