Bed Bounce Video

Well I'm still trying to do research into my next truck purchase and I found this video regarding bed bouncing. I thought it was interesting.

Wow. The Silverado could barely hold a straight line, the wheels became airborne, and just didn't look right. The Toyota did a bit better, but the bed looked like it was gonna vibrate itself off the truck.

An upgrade on the shocks is the only thing the Chevy needs. That Tundra's box was flapping around so badly.

I wonder what they would look like at max payload.

I bet my F250 wouldn't make it very far down that strip. It would either flip or come apart. That stiff suspension can be brutal at times.

Actually, its not the shocks on the Chevy causing that. Its the frame. You ought to see that video up close and personal.... I was standing to the left of the frame when that video was shot. The details you can't see really show how badly the competition performs.

You aren't the only one. Before seeing this video I was on a diesel forum and '08 SD purchaser said the same thing. He felt his rear coming around off a turn pike. (ref link)

Apparently the video poster has segmented a bunch of these videos. He has more here.

I know my '88 F150 would'nt be able to maintain any speed down that concrete strip.

All the stuff on the dash and seat would fall off, ya know...

Seriously, though, I was impressed with how the F150 in the video outperformed the competition. The Toyota's bed looked like it was gonna fly off of it there.

Neither would my '97

For some reason, my F150's suspension is real stiff. There's a couple corners around here that I have to slow down on, or the rear end will come around on me. It's nearly happened a couple times when I wasn't paying attention...

It's an interesting test. The 150 had a great showing.

But like already mentioned, take a Super Duty on it. When it flexes, is it a terrible truck?

My SD is a short bed crew cab; if I park it weird (in a ditch for instance) the tailgate will not open...off roading I can watch my bed twist in the side mirrors...is my truck a POS???

I would have like to take my old 95 F150 down that strip. That would have been fun to watch, might have looked like a fat chick on one of those old belt vibrator machines.

While it appears the F-150 was the better of them, until the exact testing is done by an independant source it doesn't really prove anything.

Too many variables come into to play with this test, espically when it is conducted by a major competitor.

And my question is how would this test be replicated in regards to a real world situation?

There's some roads around here that are almost as bad as that test strip.

No kidding. Any one of the competitors can craft a test to highlight one attribute of thier vehicle that shines over the rest.

I know that my 2000 F150 would do terrible on that test. It would be all over the road and need new ball joints after that.

There is no real life relation to this test because if you were going that fast over that kind of road, you're just being stupid.

Mike
