This morning I was messing around, had a Firefox window open along with some OpenOffice stuff, and all of a sudden got a "your Mozilla Firefox has just been updated" notice along with some kind of "you have been updated but not upgraded" BS, so I just closed all the boxes and windows, reopened Firefox...
AND MY BOOKMARKS ARE ALL GONE!
I tried doing a system restore and got a point from yesterday, but it didn't help.
Any clues? There were some bookmarks for stuff that took hours to find.
Firefox keeps backups of bookmarks, so all hope is not lost.
Mine are at: C:\Documents and Settings\{your login ID here}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ebwt09lz.default\boo kmarkbackups
I also use XP pro, and I'm not 100% sure how XP home handles user IDs. Worst case, you can do a search for a folder called bookmarkbackups and find what you need.
My Firefox update each and every time without a hitch. I'll look but I think there is a setting for update bookmarks when you first installed. Check out what Andy said, he has saved me once or twice without him knowing.
Thanks, I use XP PRo too, but the weird thing is that my filepath stops at C:\Documents and settings. I also cannot find a folder by the name given, or anything close to it.
Edit: I changed search parameters to filename "bookmarks" and included hidden files/folders, and found some saved copies!!
