Well, I ahve to admit, I was a local performance store, and I was talking with a gentelman reguarding the Hypertech Programer for my V10. I have a 2000 Superduty with the V10, and I would like to bump up the performance a tad, and would like to shift firmness. Does anybody have any experience with either of these programers. I am trying to lean away from any chips just b/c I like the plug and play charecteristics of the programers. Am i required to run 92 octane? Will I have any gains/losses in fuel milage? Will I void my warrenty? Will I have a noticable gain in "seat of my pants" performance?
I received my Superchips Microtuner and installed it a week ago. I noticed a definite seat of the pants improvement. I can now easily spin the tires from a dead stop. I also set the shift firmness at 3 points above the minimum. There is a definite improvement in the shifting and I might set the shift points even higher. As far as increased fuel mileage I can’t say yet. If it stops raining I plan on taking a 500 mile trip this weekend. I have kept a fuel log since I bought my truck and I track the mileage every time I fill up. I will post and let you know if there is an increase in the fuel mileage when I get back. Yes, you need to use at least 91 octane gas. As far as the warranty, if I have to take my truck to the dealer I will go back to the stock program and then reprogram back to Superchips when I get it back. It is very easy to program and doesn’t take much time at all. Over all, I really like the Superchips Microtuner.
I recently found out that Hypertech figured out the tuner for the 2000's -up. I see that thiers has a dual fuel function. Don't know what the #'s are for Hypertechs model. They don't have the code reader function built into it, so I'd lean toward the Superchips.
I'd like to know if the 1715 will provide the correct tuning for headers. Superchips said a brief 'yes' when I emailed them, but all thier answers are short. Ken said it would only work with the Ottomind (Banks), but that would require a chip and a tuner?
One thing that won't work on the 1715, unless you have a digital odometer, is the axle/speedo function. That will disappoint the folks hoping to cure the effects of fat rubber.
One of these days I'll call and talk to a live person at S'chips.
Yes, it will work with headers. A chip can't be used with a tuner. The Ottomind is a chip and can't be used with the tuner. The Banks Transcommand, however, can be used with the tuner (or a chip with the line pressure mod removed).
