it took a couple hours... more like 4-5 haha getting the old one out takes a couple of sawzall blades/batterys and a lot of twisting and turning to get it out.. to get the new one in you gotta bend the firewall out a bit by the tranny but besides that it's pretty easy... remember to put duct tape or something over the turbo to keep crap from getting into there... mostly metal shavings
I agree not too hard but takes some time and patience. cut in half and pull out from top and bottom. There is a flange 1/2 way down fire wall where floorpan and upper firewall meet and are tack welded. cut this flange about 3/4"deep down to firewall surface. And do it on both sides of where the DP will be. then bend it down flush with the Firewall and insert new one. I have heard of people "beating" the firewall with wood and/or sledge but I didn't have to do it. I am sure it would make more room but I don't like using hammers unless necessary.
I only had to bend the flange on the firewall over and it fit with plenty of clearance. I've head there can be quite a difference between trucks as far as where the engine and cab are mounted in relationship to each other. Mine had room but others may be tighter. Either way, it's worth the effort. The stock downpipe really sux.

yeah i used a crow bar with mine, just a couple good pulls and the new one fit snugly (not touching once it was all attached though)
I have a 3" body lift and clearance is no issue... do they make bigger than 3" that would work on our trucks? Any beneift? Sorry to change topic!
guys are running 3" dp's with well over 500hp... i don't think it'll give you any benifit going to a 3 1/2 or 4" and by the way i don't think they make any TRUE 4" dp's... they start out at 3 1/2
I have heard that they make one that is 3" out of turbo and enlarging 3.5" below firewall. You can always have someone do a custom job. Someone on here had BDP customize a '99-'03 3.5" DP and make it fit ours. Enough money and mods can get anything done.
I have thought about dual 3" DP's down to dual 5" out back(don't like stacks) would be cool. Then again enough money or engineuity will get you anything you want.

be different and get headers that go to their own individual turbos and also dual intakes... why hasn't anyone tried that yet??
they make headers for duramaxs but not strokers, i have always pondered the thought of how more flow to the turbo would be but then i dont know how the loss of backpressure would effect it unless you were makeing a ton of power to start with
