These dang things are a pain in my tool box. I have broke three (three jaw) pullers on the bearings. .. and managed to screw both bearings up. So with two new bearings that will be here tomorrow. . . . does anybody have a brand specific puller that will get these off? Thanks
Tim
So I take it the shims are on the inside of the carrier bearing (between the bearing and the carrier). The front axle on my jeep is like this also. You can buy setup bearing but they usually run about $40 or so. I made mine out of a couple of extrs. Just use a die grinder and slightly grind out the inside until it is a slip fit. This will allow you to get the shims set the way you want then slip the setup bearing off and press on the good ones
Would a good shop have tools to pull the carrier bearing? I was contemplating putting a new one on mine, cause it's got some flex- question is, how much flex is allowed? I don't know how much play is allowed 'cause it's not a "hard" part like steel. Any input?
