two inlet tubes

Ok, on our year of trucks, there are two inlet tubes that go from the throttle body to the air filter/inlet box/ whatever........My question is why, and can a person make a merged tube so that both tubes merge into one for a simpler system?

If you merged the two, wouldn't you restrict the air flow into the throttle body?

I mean merging the two into a larger one. It doesnt seem like it would restrict the flow, and if you run the engine with them disconnected, covering (i think the bottom one if I remember) doesnt even do anything, its only when covering the top that it seems to matter, but I dont know

The tubes coming off the twin throttle body on my f150 merge into one prior to hitting the stock MAF unit.

Is that what you were looking for? Keep in mind my intake box is far from stock but everything downstream of the MAF sensor and behind the aluminum air box is OEM.

I must have been thinking in small terms. My bad.... I see now that the single tube would work fine.

ok, I'll check the wrecking yards tomorrow to find out if they have one.

another off-topic q though.....do you have that airbox getting its air from just flow-by from the headlight? or is there a system you've worked out, and would water easily find its way in there?

I started with the inlet tube the 460 and 300 I6 OEM snorkel uses. The one next to the radiator on the drivers side. I cut out the remaining sheetmetal above and below the hole to open it up.

The air box built has two drain holes and the billet grill seems to stop the majority of the water coming in. Even in the rainiest Washington weather, the box remains quite dry.
