Hey guys I need some tips on changing the fluids in my 2000 f-350 7.3L . I am at 98,000 miles and need to change Antifreeze, Differential, and what ever else you recomend. I noticed there is an additive for the Antifreeze. What is this stuff and where can I get it. The book calls it FW-15 and no parts stores here know what I am talking about so, much help here please.
Differentials: what do you recomend for the covers? Do I need to buy the Gaskets o just seal them up with Sealant. I am following the book recomended fluids for the diffs. I sho no dif lock additive needed.
Any info or tips on changing any of the fluids will be helpfull or if you have good luck with certain brands let me know where I can get them. I need this truck to last me a long time and I feel bad I waited so long to change out these fluids but I am going to do it now.
Additives are subjective, I don't know what the FW-15 is, but you can use any quality additive as long you use good anti-freeze. The motorcraft is an orange color, but I don't think it's a dexcool. When I get around to replacing my hoses, I'll go back to motorcraft orange and use royal purples additive. I have used Red lines water wetter in the past to good results too.
I'd suggest getting a mag hy-tech diff cover, like I did. It has a drain and fill plug, plus an O-ring for a gasket. If you are going to use your cover, get gaskets and use a tiny bead of RTV. It doesn't take much, maybe a 1/8" wide bead.
Synthetics have a higher change interval. I am running all Royal Purple, 100k is pushing it for just about any oil.
Check the axle codes on the drivers door. If you have limited slip then you need the LS additive from Ford. If it is an open diff the no additive needed.
I read a few on the antifreeze since I had to change my water pump. There are several sites in here to help, I added a filter to anifreeze and a different thermostat that was recommended on the site along with the radiator hose that goes around the serpentine belt. All was easy and I saved money. Be sure not to ask about Amsoil. Dave
FW15 is an anti-foam additive that diesels require in the coolant. You can get it at any Ford dealer. It has changed part numbers, I dont remember the new number
MArk to FW number is for coolant. Its an additive that stops the bubbles created by the agitation of the coolant ina diesel motor. hose bubbles attach to cylinder walls and scale the cylinder walls creating problems down the road. WIX, FORD and others make the additive needed. The dealer has it and its not bad in price. You will need the LS fluid to add to your differential oil change so no chatter is created turning and no gasket is needed just a good sealer / gasket maker. Check the cover for rusting out first. If getting bad a new cover will be needed, time for an upgrade.Do your transfer case too, its easy and not to expensive either. So if you do tranny, transfer case, rear & front differentials, coolant, you should have it. You can watch ebay sometimes these items come up in kits and are real checp. I did my differentials for 25.00 or so including the limited slip additive, ford motorcraft items.
