99 Ranger no start

Hey everyone, Ive got a 99 Ranger 3.0 that keeps blowing the fuel pump fuse, the owners manual says that the fuse controls the fuel pump relay and a module that controls the power locks or something, I think its called REM module or something. I check for a short and could there is no continuity at the fuse to ground, and the fuse only blows when cranking which led me to believe there was a bad fuel pump, but I changed it and the fuse still blows. I dont have access to a wiring diagram and dont really know where to go from here. Has anyone experienced this problem before and what was done about it. Any help would be appreciated, and any info on where to find a wiring diagram would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Welcome. Have you tried changing the FP relay itself?

Also, is your '99 3.0L a flex fuel (8th digit of the VIN = "V")?

Bad relay is the most likely problem. Interesting that she blows the fuse when cranking. When the key is first turned and 'before' you start cranking, the relay kicks in and runs the pump for a couple of seconds to pressurize the fuel system. If there's a short in that circuit, it should blow the fuse before you start cranking the engine. Try turning the key on with engine off so you can hear the fuel pump run up, then check the fuse before you crank it.

Let us know either way.
