My father has a 94 F150 with a regular bed in it. He's asked me to take a look at fixing the following rust issues over the rear wheel arches. It's pretty bad and I'm thinking I would be better replacing the whole box, but the problem is he's got a propane tank in the back of the bed, so I'd have to have that removed beforehand.
Are there patch panels to fix this problem or would I be best getting two entire replacement panels?
Either way, if you could point me in the direction of a good site/shop that would have body parts for this truck, that would be swell....
Also, are there supposed to be wheel liners in the back?
Thanks,
....and onto the carnage....did I mention my father isn't really good about maintaining his vehicles?????
The patch panels you need are readily available by many vendors, I would start by checking with vendors that sponsor this site. Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and NPD carry theses parts.
There are small panels go just pass wheel wheel to
Large go all way to passed gas doors.
And whole bed sides.
Check locally .All body shops deal with after market parts as well as some wreckers. Why pay shipping when they can have delivered to them and you pick up. www.raybuck.com
I'd check underneath and see if not bad there first. You should get the large panels (I can get them for $80.00 each) and a bottom repair for both sides. If you can put then in your self go for it. If you have to take to shop to do . A bed might be a better bet. I can get bed for $800-$1000 You will have $125 say in parts Each side thats $250 . The average in Pa to have them put in .(And I check 10 different shops to have mine fixed) Was $300 plus a side .
Check old bed out and see condition and price parts. Good luck LOST
I'm doing the same on mine as we speak. Was $35 each for the wheel arch patch panels and $65 each for the inner fenders. If you can at least do the bodywork yourself, shops are pretty reasonable for painting. A local shop priced mine at about $500 for the bed for paint. The real cost in this project is the bodywork.
Even if you find a good bed, chances are you will probably have to have it painted.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I dropped by a paint-supply store in my area. They had all the panels I needed for about $260 total (the rear lower panels were actually more than the wheel arches). The good thing is that the guy spent about an hour explaining painting techniques to me, which was amazing in my books. I'll have to panels next week and will be working on it probably next weekend.
wow oaktree those patch panels came out real good.... i am doing my bed and paint in the spring... hopefully it looks half as good as that!!! lol nice job
