T/C Lock up mod Question

I did the lockup mod a week a go an have been using it around town,The truck shifts had as hell.the question is were an when do most of you use your lock up.25 mph an up ,or towing, or some other time.Thanks

The reson your truck is now shifting hard is because there is now no slippage in the torque convertor during shifts. You're feeling the actual shift without the fluid dampener that was the torque convertor.

As for the lockup point, do it whenever you feel the most comfortable and when you're not lugging the engine. I'd definitely make sure you're in at least second gear before you engage the TC because the 1-2 shift uses parts in the transmission that require some delicate handling.

I usually engage the TC lock around 25mph and try not to lug the rpm's down, (unless there is a need for smoke!) It seems to be easier on the TC and the rest of the trans.

That being said it keeps the tranny temp slightly ower, and it makes the truck more fun to drive, almost like I can pick a gear like a 6spd.

The main reason I did the TC lockup mod is I tow a lot and it comes in real handy going up & down a grade. Saves the brakes some wear and tear. As cleatus12r said, be careful how you use it in the lower gears.

Any more info on this ? If I lock it down in 2nd an go WOT To the max,Am I buying a new trany. ?

that is the golden question. I have been trying to find the answer for a while i think i might do the TC mod this weekend

If you get it done be ready for some rock hard teeth ratiling shifts.mine is like side steping the cluch on a 4 speed mustang.

no just a stock trany,,I think ,bought the truck used an haven't had the pan down yet.

I'm looking into getting the sonnax kit. Altho i think mine shifts pretty firm now as compared to the auto in my cherokee.
