Air In Fuel?

I just recently added the ITP Prepump kit to my truck about 3 weeks ago. Seems to work great w/ no problems.

Yesterday I had to drive down a road that will loosen fillings in your teeth. Upon leaving my customer site, I heard a noise from my exhaust, I broke an exhaust hanger. Got to the shop and welded it back up, no big deal. I top off w/ fuel before getting home (I was @ 1/4 tank). No DK or Lucas injector oil, like I normally do, as I was out of it.

So this morning I fire up big red and get heading down the road. After it warms up, I step into it a bit and notice there's no power on about 2100 rpms and it's shifting or not shifting funny. I'm thinking great tranny. But the more I drove it easy it shifts fine and so on. So... as I'm driving to work I'm thinking about my fuel and lean towards the pump. I pull into work and shut down my truck, turn the key on and fuel pump is making all sorts of noises, very loud. I open the drain on the Baldwin Filter from the Prepump and it made some Gulp Gulp noises and then spits out fuel back and forth between the two holes on the drain. After doing this and closing it back up the fuel pump sounds fine but still not running right. Any ideas. Could the teeth jarring road knock something loose in the tank? With a full tank of full, I wouldn't expect it to be more noticeable then before I filled up.

What sucks more: my DP Tuner and BTS valve body will be here today and I was going to install, but not going to do so now until it's fixed.

So ignore it off my sig line.

Thanks,

Matt

Did the main fuel pump sound like a mad bee? That's a sure sign of air in the fuel.

I see that you've done the Hutch mods, so if it were my truck, the tank would be coming down and make sure that everything is tight and follow it from there to the pump.

Or you could do this:

Kwikk - thanks for the reply. Not just one pissed off bee, but a whole sworm of them. I know that's what it is now after playing around w/ the Baldwin filter, somethings has come loose on top of the tank or in the tank. Now to drain out 28 gallons of fuel. How harmful is it on my truck to run the way I am until I use this tank of fuel, mind you, it runs fine if I stay out of the throttle and just drive "normal". I don't really have a way to store 28 gallons of fuel.

Air in fuel is never good. Prolonged usage with air in the lines can lead to injector damage.

Dropped the full tank of fuel. Found a kink supply line coming from the pickup to the Baldwin filter. It was right above the fuel tank inside the frame rail.

Tomorrow I can DP tune and BTS valve body!

Good deal. Starving for fuel was it?? Mine is gravity fed out the bottom. I even have my skid plate back on now though I still have to fab up a supplimental plate for the sump. Getting there.

I think I can drop the tank w/ my eyes closed @ this point. Everything is pretty simple, but the darn metal straps and getting them bolted back up (from bending them out of the way).

Runs good and currently dropping the tranny pan for the BTS.

If you have a helper, or an engine hoist, it is actually easier to pull the bed.

Next time! I'm sure there will be a next time in pulling the tank.

FYI - Got the DP Tuner and BTS VB installed. Really simple. Just so you know, it's easier to go ahead and install the fluid pickup/filter before reinstalling the pan and filling w/ fresh new Tranny fluid. 7 qts back out and all 800 bolts removed from the pan, again - and I'm a happy camper.

Time for a ATS housing - SURGE!!!
