coughing sound after high boost

When I let my foot off of the accelerator at high RPM/Boost, I hear a very sharp choppy coughing sound. I'm assuming that this is the turbo blow off. Am I correct in my assumption?

(Sounds nothing like my VW 1.8T blow off)

Yes this is "turbo fart", there is no waste gate on the VGT turbo. Do you have an A/M air intake or stock?

The noise is much easier to hear with an A/M air intake. If you read the 6.0 forum you will see that A/M air intakes are not recommended for the 6.0 and they can void your engine warranty.

Thanks for the info. I actually had already read that. I just bought my truck (used) and it came with the AFE intake. I have no stock air box to return to.

Try a local salvage yard for the stock pieces, there are only three pieces, the Inlet hose end for the turbo and the Inlet hose end for the Radiator core/header panel. The part in the middle is the OEM Donalson filter unit.
Also try some of the online discount Ford parts dealers, several are FTE sponsers.

Here is a picture of the Inlet tube at the turbo and the Donaldson Air Filter assembly, only thing not shown is the inlet hose at the Header panel.

Here is a drawing showing all three pieces

Hope this helps.

So are the filter and the filter box both part of the filter?

Yes they are. Here is a picture of the Donaldson Powercore with the white paper media, also comes with the blue synthetic media.

Order it from these guys, as they are about the cheapest and it is the "Blue synthetic" media which is water resistant unlike the white cellulose.

My truck did this and I took it to the dealer. They told me it was the normal "Turbo Flutter Box". Soon after this my turb blew and had to have it replaced (under warrenty). My truck doesn't have the normal "Turbo Flutter Box" sound anymore.
