hood lock

hello everybody this might be a silly question but I have a 1975 ford f150 v8 360 c6 a/t is there some kind a security lock that came with these model trucks so the hood would lock so nobody could just open the hood and take the battery, is there an add on I could install. if anybody can give me some info that would be great.

Yes, Ford offered an optional hood locking assembly.

It is keyed along with the ignition and doors.

Hood locking release, cable, latch, and strike plate in the kit. Probably could find a set on eBay or your favorite U-pull place.

You can also find them on Broncos in bone yards that will fit into our trucks.

1973/79 F100/350's & 1978/79 Bronco's had an optional hood lock kit. The kit is no longer available.

However, the locking hood latch is the same as Econoline 1975/1991. The hood cable and lock cylinder is the same as 1975/80 Granada/Monarch.

The problem with Van hood locking systems is the cable is about 18" shorter than thw F-series

There are a few users of this site that sell these systems.

I'm one of them.

See the ad's in the classified.

Rather than start a new post

Could a person piece together a cable activated hood latch (without lock) using a 75-91 van latch, and a hood cable assembly from a 75-80 granada?

On a side note, I've done this before, resurrected a mildly old post.

Is this "ok" on this forum? I know some forums, it's frowned on, while on others it's encouraged.

check the 78 and 79 broncos in the salvage yards. most used to have them. or look at other 73 to 79 trucks. sometimes it can be your locky day. the big wrecking yard in the biggest town next to me has quite a few 73 to 79 trucks.

There aren't any.

There are a ton of vans and Granadas however ...

I guess I'll have to try it

I used a cable out of an '80 model truck and the latch out of a '90 or '91 van. Easy installation but I did have to drill out the hole in my firewall a bit to fit the end of the cable through and I haven't looked for a grommet to protect it yet. Works great, though. I think the later '80s trucks integrated the cable pull assembly with the parking brake assembly so stick with the early 80's trucks. Should be plenty of those in the yards.
