Just bought a 76 F-250 2wd supercab camper special (minus camper). I had to replace the power steering pump because the PO had a leak and the pump went dry and locked up on him.
It is leaking out of the top of the Steering box where the shaft goes in to the box. Any helpful hints to what needs replacing or instructions on the net??
Here are the options this truck has:
AC
power steering
Cruise control
390
4speed
4.10s
disk brakes on front??
huge windshield wiper resevoir.
It looks like this could be a pain in the butt to get access to. I was thinking of removing the resevoir for the wiper fluid and maybe the master cylinder for the brakes.
Notes I wrote in my service manual...
"out through the bottom"
"in through the top"
"digging bar resting under the control valve"
"disconnect flex coupling, leave on steering-gear shaft"
"remove clutch crank"
Are you planning to rebuild the steering gear yourself? :)

pps- ordered them both in Nov '74 and the books arrived first. ;)
ppps- one of the best "options" i bought too ;)
pppps- prob'ly ruined my windshield washer in the first couple months using plain water... it's been missing ever since! ;)

No i wasnt going to rebuild the the whole box. I wasnt even going to drop it. i was going to disconnect the column from the box and change the seal as its leaing from the seal (o ring type but flat) that surrounds the column as it goes into the box. I think it looks possible.
feel free to correct me if im wrong or mistaken. I am still wondering if there is a easy way to do this.

You have to buy a seal kit, individual seals are not sold separately. If you consider removing the box, you will need a Pitman arm puller.
D7AZ-3E501-A .. Steering Sector Shaft Seal Kit
>> F3AZ-3E502-A .. Steering INPUT Shaft Seal Kit. <<
These two kits are sold everywhere, some of the cars used the same ones.

Thanks to all, Zack
If you bought the seal kit from a parts store, it may not have the Ford part number on it. F3AZ-3E502-A is a Ford part number. If the package does reference a Ford number, it could also be: D7AZ-3E502-A. This is the same seal kit, but Ford replaced it recently with the F3AZ number..not to worry, same parts in both kits.

Yeah what Bill said, and I bet you can rent one from AutoZone for free. :)
And a 1+5/16" wrench (or socket) for the sector shaft nut.
And a pickle fork (or another puller) for the tie-rod joint.
And a couple "flare nut wrenches"... 1/2" and 5/8".
And a diggin' bar? ;)
Just noticed mine's leaking "out the top" more than i thought. :)
Before you pull that sucker apart (or whatever you decide) have someone help you check for the sector shaft play.
To do that, feel-of and look-at the sector shaft while someone turns/jiggles the steering wheel back-n-forth.
Figure out how much side to side play you've got there.
It's amazing to me how much play those things can have and the lower seals not leak. :)

Drove mine using "Armstrong steering" for a couple years once, when it was leaking the same place as yours. It was leaking so bad I couldn't go very many miles without the thing acting up. So finally filled it up including a bottle of STP and ran it just long enough to mix it in good then pulled the belt.
