Anyone ever had there O/D warning light go off? Was driving over the Mt Hood and I usually shut-off O/D when climbing the cascades, load or no load, just to go easy on the trans. While climbing I was pulling over for a rest area and forgot I had the O/D off (Only had 4 people an luggage on the truck). I was going to use the O/D off to slow for my turn. I hit the button, then hit it quickly again twice once I realized what "gear" I was in. Light started flashing, pulled into the rest area and let the truck idle for awhile, still flashing. Shut off the truck, came back in a couple of minutes and started it, checked tranny fluid and it was okay, light was not flashing anymore. Do you guys think that tranny was pissed/confused because I hit the button so many times so quickly? Also, how many of you use your O/D button to compression brake? I use mine and it works great. I just don't know if that is to hard on the tranny. I know that you don't want your tranny "searching" for gears, but is on/off occasionally down a grade bad for it? Tranny temp gauge (Idiot Guage) was running normal. Anyone with a tranny temp gauge actually get "results" as far as being able to watch your tranny warm up when pulling a load? I've thought about the dieselmanor pod, just wonder if the tranny temp gauge is that much better? Sorry for the long post, trying to explain it all.

If it was flashing then a code was set. A Ford Diesel compatible scanner such as AE can retrieve it. Find out what the code was first.

I live close to the mountains so I manually downshift to slow the engine and take it easy on the brakes. This includes using the button to turn off O/D. Doesn't hurt anything.

Searching for gears with a load is bad. Normal shifting or manually downshifting for engine braking is fine.
