I have an uncut 69 bronco, and i want some knobby looking tires. I dont know much about tires ( except they are made of rubber) so i am asking you guys. What will fit, look good, have some nice grip for mild off roading, and hum when i go down the road. I also like the words mickey thompson on the sides of tires but could live with out it. also what should i expect to pay and are there any pictures of some tires?
FOR AN UNCUT BRONCO, YOUR NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GO VERY AGGRESSIVE, DUE TO THE FACT THAT MANUFACTURERS DON'T MAKE AGGRESSIVE TREADS FOR SMALL TIRES, I THINK YOU CAN GET SOME 30'S OR MAYBE 31'S UNDER IT, I WOULDN'T GO MUCH WIDER THAN 10.5, YOU'LL HAVE RUBBING OTHERWISE, OR YOU COULD CHECK A FEW OF THE E.B. WEBSITES, (BRONCO.COM, JEFF'S BRONCO GRAVEYARD, JAMES DUFF, THERE ARE A TON OF THEM OUT THERE AND I KNOW I FOUND ONE THAT HAS TIRES SIZES FOR E.B.'S AND IF THEY ARE LIFTED AND WHAT NOT! GOOD LUCK! OWNER OF A 72' E.B. NATE!!
For an uncut Bronco with stock suspention, you're pretty much limitted to a 31" x 8 tire. As for recommendations, it depends on what you're going for. If you want the "knobby" look but drive mainly on the street, I would check out the BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A. A good source for tires is The Tire Rack, at www.tirerack.com.
I had a similar situation (68) but finally
after about a year's worth of consideration
decided to cut, lift and go with 10 x 35's.
It was a leap of faith for me that I would
be happy with the results, but after all
(or at least most) of the problems I ran into
got straightened out, it was OK. The
convincing argument to me was that from
an engineering viewpoint, the uncut fenders
were absymally inappropriate for larger tires,
which are needed (in my case) for better
gas mileage as a DD as much as for going
offroad and overcoming obstacles.
:-staun how did you get better gas mileage with larger tires?

I run 33 x 9.5's on my uncut 70 model EB, but I have 2 1/2" of suspension lift and 1" of body lift. As stated above, your pretty much limited to 30's or skinny 31's without flares or lift. Your best bang for the buck is going to be the BFG's. They got three different styles now. Good luck, Steve
after all is said and done, it just looks better, and you can do more with the bigger tires. I cut em out, flared them, and put on some goodyear wrangler mtr owl's that are 33 X 12.5. they look, and perform awesome, and fit great with no lift. thanks
I have a 77 bronco with 235 X 75 R15 tires and stock rims. No rubbing at all and the speedometer is still acurate within 4 mph.
Check out the BFG Mud Terrain KM. They look real good with the new tread design, hum when you go down the road, (but not annoyingly loud) and have good wear characteristics on the pavement.
By the way, 31 X 10.50 tires on stock rims have about a 75% chance that they will rub the lip of the fender.
If you want aggresive tires that hum in a small package, go with Buckshots. They are loud and they make them in sizes from 29" to 33". They are narrow so they will fit without a lift or cutting. They are made by Gateway. If you want an aggressive mud tire you can't beat them and they last forever due to the hard compound. Good luck!
