Exactly.

Sometimes I wonder why people think they're going to get equal or better mileage when they go from a 6.0 to a 6.4 - which is an INCREASE in displacement.

Not to mention the SD's have gone on a high-carb diet in the past 3-4 years

At one time the diesel had many advantages over the gas motor now the only thing left is power That, if you are towing a heavy camper on long steep grades will be a advantage. We have the 05 V-10 and are completly satisfied with it although we do huff and puff on some of the bigggg grades (13K fifth wheel). Since we now travel in a lot of high country our next truck MAY be the 6.4l but if not we have no problem in staying with the V-10.

ok I have a question for you guys I have a 2004 f250 super duty 4x2 v10,3.73 rear auto trans, extended cab, short bed, with 64k miles on her.10 to 15 times a year I pull a 30ft travel trailer with all my gear on it it comes in at around 8700k, when I pull my trailer I dont even know it is there. I love this truck I was thinking of trading her in for a super duty power stroke. my reason for this was because of the amount of miles you could put on a power stroke. My question is this, is the truck I have now a 200k+ motor? if it is I think I will keep what I have thank for any info bill

Hmmmmm, 6.0 to 6.4 = .4 increase / 7.3 down to 6.0 = 1.3 decrease,then how come my 2002 7.3 get's better mpg than my son's 2004 6.0 and i have the programer set at 60 hp=almost the same hp out put ,same truck's except for the motor's and he has the torque shift tran's, both are 4x2, f350 4 door's,4:10's duelly's.btw that's solo, him 14-14.5, me16-17, towing him, 9-10, me, 10 -11, I pull a 2004 sunnybrook titan 31bwks 32 ft with 3 slide's, fiberglass/gelcoat sided 13500# ,he pull's a 2006 coachman chaparral 34 ft with 1 slide,fiberglass sided 10,000# , when we camp together,sometime's I follow,sometime's he follow's me ,make's no diffrence who's out in front.

Check how much air actually gets INTO the 6.0 compared to the 7.3

More turbo boost, more air, more fuel.

Going from a 6.0 to a 6.4, with even more boost? Not going to help MPGs...

I just talked to a guy at the gas station that had a 02 F-350 rc 5speed V10 flat bed dulley. He also had a trailer on back, flat bed and trailer had scaffling on it. It was sittin there runnin while he was filling the tank, and it sounded like a diesile sittin there idelin. But it had V10 badges on the fender, so im standing there scrathing my head at why its is making this awful noise. So I go talk to the guy and ask how many miles are on it, he said umm not sure let me check he said 514*** thousand miles. I said what the **** i guess thats why it sounds like a diesile he said its been maken that kind of noise ever since about 400*** he also said that only problems hes had was a leakiey radiator at 40,000 and a iac go bad on him. He said he was going to drive it until it blew and hed be buyin another v10, he was tellin me he drove from cleveland to toledo almost every day since he bought it new. And let me tell you when he pulled outta the gas station he was not easy on the go peadle either. I belive the milage he told me I kind of looked in the cab and the drivers seat was all torn up and the rubber on the peadles where all most worn out.

I'm on my 4th V10

2001 F250 4x4 3.73 rear - 12-14 mpg highway

2000 Excursion 4x4 3.73 - 16 mpg highway

2006 F250 4x4 4.10 - 12-13 mpg highway/ 11-12 in town

2006 F250 4x4 4.10 (exact set up as the other 2006) 10.5-11.9 highway, 8.5-11 in town, 7.19 mpg towing 2000 miles with 8500 lb travel trailer and 2k lbs in bed

I can't tell why the 2nd F250 was worse than the 1st 2006 F250, but it is, I drive the same, etc, just it gets worse mileage.

I like my V10, unfortunately I have the short bed, with the small tank, I was filling up every 135 - 145 miles while towing. I need a bigger tank to get more miles to the tank and reduce fill ups. As for power, I didn't have any power towing across country.

My neighbor has a 2004 6.0 diesel, he get's 2-4 better mpg towing/empty, but has had injectors replaced, new tranny put it, etc. He's not buying diesel again.

Tony
