Want to buy a F350 V10 CC LWB to replace my 2005 6.0L...way too loud, tired of the all the nonsense. What can a guy expect (not towing) for gas mileage after break-in? I am not very hard on the pedal.
City vs hwy?
thanks
2008 F250 V10 CC LWB 4.10 4x2 torqshift
I have filled my tank 4 times.
2nd fill up 14.45 MPG hand calculated almost all highway (50-75MPH)
3rd fill up 12.88 MPG hand calculated mixed driving
4th fill up 10 MPG hand calculated city/short trips (5-10 miles)/no highway (my normal driving)
I went on a trip Memorial day and it looks like 13.8MPG on the dash readout.
My dash lio-meter has been of by plus .8MPG all 3 times I hand calculated so that 13.8 is probably 13.0.
The truck has 1400 miles on it, so it is not broke in.
I have owned both and find the 3 valve V10 burns about 25%~30% on average more than the 6.0PSD empty and towing. Wonderful engine that should not cause any problems.
My 05 CC LWB 4X4 4.10 LSD V10 with 104K on it gets around 14MPG highway at 70 MPH and 10-11 towing either my 30' enclosed trailer or my 26' fifth wheel (8000 pounds or so)
I agree with mechanic, my hand calculated mileage empty is 11-12 mixed no load. Ive never checked my hiway mileage empty. I get 8- 10 towing my 6500lb travel trailer, rolling weight.. The towing mileage is mostly hiway. The travel trailer is a prowler 25 foot. I tow at 55 to 60mph
I have an 05 supercab v-10, tq, sb 4x4.
I get about 12mpg on my 02 Excursion. Granted it weighs more than a Super Duty Truck. I'm not complaining at all. I did not buy the Ex for the MPG. I really could care less how much gas it uses. I love the V-10 engine!! You will have no problems at all with it.
I have a neighbor who has a 04 6.0L diesel F-350..He has a landscape Co. and he towes everyday about 14,000 lbs of sand and cement etc..He gets about 10-12 mpg maybe..BUT!!!! His truck is STILL leaking oil..He has hadthe dealer put dye in the oil to see where it is leaking and they still cannot find out where our why?????? His truck is a mess. Not just cosmetic wise..
I cannot say enough about the V-10..Just make sure you get the right rear end gear ratio!!
IMO..Gas should not be a consideration point for a big truck purchase. If you can't afford the gas for a big truck..Simply don't buy it..It's a easy as that.
I only have 780 miles on my truck but when I filled up today I hand calculated 8.7 MPG. This was achieved running empty with mostly stop and go driving.
With only about 900 miles to date of neither stop/go nor highway mileage (mine is semi-rural suburbia) and no towing, I'm at about 12.7. My average trip length is about 10 miles.
The miles are too low for this to be meaningful, but I used to get a consistent 14.1 with my '88 F250 SC 4x2 so I'll be real happy if I average in the 13 to 14 range with this heavier 4x4 with lower gearing. The '93 the '08 replaces was typically about 11 mpg.
Two advantages for mileage I may have over most other '08 V10 SD's is that mine is a reg. cab with 6 speed.
Just for reference - the v10 seems to get pretty good mpgs for the life of the engine. I have a 99 with 168k on it and it is still getting 10.8 - 11.5 with a mix of city and hwy driving. CC SB 4x4 305/55R20 wheels and 4.10 gears.
