I know that there must be a lot of people racking up some serious mileage in here, so I figured this'd be the best spot to ask...
Do any of you use credit cards that offer rebates on gas or even like a rewards program or something? I'm at the pumps almost everyday and wouldn't mind finding a way to capitalize on maybe frequenting the same company's stations or just flat out buying a ton of gas. Anyone have any suggestions or experiences?
I just got a Chase rewards mastercard. They give you 1% cash back (or you can switch to points at any time) for all your purchases and some 'qualifying' stores earn 3% cash back. I haven't been able to find a list of the stores that give you 3% cash back but they say a lot of fast food chains and gas stations qualify for the 3%. I guess its hard to list chains as some chain stores are independently operated or something so they don't necessarily have to comply.
They are running a promotion right now where you get 0% interest on all purchases and balance transfers for one full year. There's no balance transfer fee either (well there wasn't when I signed up).
You get your rewards in either a $50 check or a $200 check. I think the rewards expire after a month or so, so you'd have to spend a lot of $ in a month to receive the benefits (and there's no benefits on balance transfers). The post-introductory APR is 8.9%, which I didn't think was too bad (thats why I ended up signing up).
I've had a Chase Mastercard for a long, long time--although the name has changed a lot through the years (Bank One, AFNB, etc.). They give 3% off on gas purchases and 1% on other purchases. I don't use it a whole lot, but still get around $75-$100 a year back--it's credited each month on your bill. I've paid it off every month for the last 15-20 years, so I know they hate me cause it costs them over $100 a year to keep me as a customer, when you think about processing, mailing, etc. Hope they never dump me, cause it's the only credit card I've got.
