Just curious, is anyone else out there into tractor pulling? I've been looking forward to it all winter, and the fair nearby where I'm pulling is less than a month away. I'm pulling my Farmall 400. I've never pulled before, but I have friends that do and I have loved watching tractor pulls since I was little. Anyway just interested if we have tractor pullers on FTE.

yup - love the tractor pulls... go to 'em in MN and IA every summer. Harder and harder to get outta work it seems, but I find a way. Same with the fairs and stuff with demo derbys, combine derbys, etc.
if you never pulled before wait till ya tighten the chain!! youll roll ahead and it gets tight and youll think your hooked to a stump!!! one lil hint do not lower the rear tire psi a couple good hops and youll twist a 9" to peices ,2nd gear low range always worked for us
has any one heard of the Arcola tractor pulls? held in Arcola Indiana, between Fort Wayne and Columbia City. My dad lives a few miles from the track, when they're pulling you can hear the tractors and announcers from his house.
Bigun72, with a good pull, 1977 with the 400 motor should pull 200. But, there's definatly a trick to pulling, and it takes a good amount of luck too. You dont want really big tires on the truck, because they will grab the dirt and bog the truck down. And sometimes trucks start hopping badly and they cant make the pull. Although I never have pulled a pickup, I have friends that have pulled for years. All their trucks are 73-79 Fords, with anything from 351's to 460's. Alot of the trucks arent super built up, and they always do pretty well. I would encourage you to enter the pulls, but be warned: Things can, and do, break. Every year someone at the pull blows either an axle or a driveshaft. Still, its alot of fun. Good luck!

I love truck and tractor pulls!!! I have never participated but I love watching them! I only know of the ones going on back home and unfortunately I don't think I'll be up that much this summer. But maybe I could go to the ones that nick mentioned in Arcola Indiana....
Bigun72, alot of my friends will put older smaller (read: Stock size) tires on their trucks to pull. Thick tread is not helpful in this case. Even beater worn out tires will be better than big ones. You can prolly pick up some for cheap somewhere. If your gonna pull, It would be worth the $ to do so.
