76 2WD Pitman Arm Replacement

We found the cause of the wandering steering on the 76 and it seems to be a worn out pitman arm. It's real loose and pops at the connection to the drag link. Still can't get it off but we're hoping a soak in some Deep Creep will remedy that.
My question is the replacement pitman arm. I can't seem to be able to find any that are for 2WD w/PS. Everyone that I find is for a 4WD. Are they the same part?

What size truck? F100/150/250/350? If it's an F250 or larger, I need the GVW to tell you what pitman arm you need and the range of years it fits.

You need a Pitman arm puller to remove the arm...and are you sure it's the pitman arm? They rarely wear out...usually it's the ball studs of the draglink that wear out first.

I have them for the 2WD F100s, F150s, and probably for the F250s as well. So if you do actually have a bad Pitman Arm, let me know and we'll find a match.

But I'm with Bill, never seen one go bad. But seen lots of bad drag link ball studs.

Let me know and I'll help out f I can.

Mike.

Thanks for the heads up. I just assumed that it was the pitman arm, but like I said I have yet to remove it. Maybe the Deep Creep will have worked by tomorrow.
If it is the drag link ball stud, can they be replaced or do you replace the entire drag link?

Scott..no one can help you till you tell us what model your truck is. F250's have different draglinks than F100/150's. In fact there may be more than one for an F250...so we need the GVW, also if that is what you have. Without the info...digging through the parts catalogs is waste of time.

It's a 76 F150 Custom LWB. I still need to remove the drag link from the pitman arm to see which part has failed.

I haven't removed the piece yet but I have had a chance for another look and it is the drag link. I may go ahead and replace the tie rod as well.
Will a pickle fork work in removing the connections?

I always used pickle forks on most that I took apart, so should work I would think.

D2TZ-3590-B .. Pitman Arm ~ Marked: D2TA-3590-AA

D3TZ-3304-B .. Draglink

The draglink is one piece. The other steering rod is actually two pieces (inner & outer) that attach to each other with a threaded sleeve.

D2TZ-3A130-B .. Inner Tie Rod

D3TZ-3A131-A .. Outer Tie Rod

The draglink and tie rod ends fit 1973/79 F100/150

The Pitman Arm fits 1970/79 F100/150.

EDIT: see next post

Fyi

The Pitman arm and draglink are obsolete from Ford, but FTE sponsor GREEN SALES has the draglink (D3TZ-3304-B) in stock (but not the Pitman arm). Green Sales is one of the largest obsolete Ford parts stores in the world.

Green Sales is in Cincinnati, Ohio: 800-543-4959

EDIT: also see above ^^^ post
