I recently slapped on a Mag-Hytec rear cover that alows 6 quarts of 75-140 syn. Why am I getting a grinding now around low speed corners left and right and worse when towing. I have a limited slip rear and added the stock amount of friction modifier, does this indicate I need more to compensate for the added fluid or am I having another problem like u-joint or carrier binding? This is a seat of pants grind that is very nervewracking ,Any help would be great.
do you think that is the noise/ sensation I am getting? I have never felt rear grind before so wasn`t sure that`s what it is.I guess it wouldn`t hurt to kep putting in some additive little by little to see if it goes away, thanks.

In fact, that is the correct way to add friction modifier...a little at a time until the chatter in a turn goes away. I think that is what you are experiencing.
Cgl posted....... Be sure to add 8 oz. of Additive Friction Modifier
KrenzyRyan posted.......4 oz of Ford's XL-3 Friction Modifier
My owners manual says 8 oz per 3.5 qts, but my Mag-Hytec says 4 oz for 3 qts?
I'm not SURE who Neal's avatar represents, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was Kinky Friedman.
Well, Neal?

Alright Pop, picture yourself in a 1950's tv studio...this guy
and this duck (which came down from the ceiling) are handing you a $50 bill for your correct answer...it is indeed the Kinkster himself...my favorite song, you ask? Why of course... "Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed".

This is why I don`t want to put too much more in cause my 6 quarts already got the 8 oz. of modifier. I don`t think I should be grinding this much, I really can feel it on slow turns .

Groucho....Say the secret word and devide an extra hunnerd dollas, its a common word something you`d find around the house, I can still see that stiff George Fennaman standing next to the contestant. How I remember that and not what I had for lunch yesterday I`ll never know.
By the way did Kinky win the election??

Check your arithmetic again! The Ford owners manual says "8 oz per 3.5 qts" this is 2.29 oz for each qt of diff fluid! The Mag-Hytec holds 6 qts, so 2.29x6=13.74 oz and you only put in a total of 8 oz for 6 qts, so if you go by the Ford recommendation (they make the diff not Mag) you need to put in 13.74-8=5.74 oz more! Sounds like you need to add another 4 oz bottle and test drive that, and then add another 1/2 bottle if it still has some noise, and then the second 1/2, etc.. if needed!
What kind of diff lube did you use, and what kind of friction modifier?

FWIW, I've always used the expensive Ford fluids, syn 75W140, and modifier, C8AZ-19B546-A, and change it every 40K using the Ford amount, and I've had no trouble with 80K miles of actual towing.
