When you start your truck, be sure to turn the HVAC control **** to the OFF position. What you hear is the blend door in the HVAC system switching positions and it causes a loud thump when you first start it up. No need to check for midgets hiding under the truck.
all that noise just becaues i didnt turn the switch off, well thank you that eases my mind some, one more thing has anyone had the air on at night and tried later to go to heat and it kept blowing cold? i thought maybe as good as my a/c is that it was frosting over
I'm glad I'm not the only one that d@mn thing scared the cr@p out of!! I figured out what it was on my own, but when a truck is new (to me), it takes a while to get used to all the sounds it makes.
I never turn off my AC -- I don't think I've ever done that with any vehicle I've driven and I've never had a problem. I have heard a few folks recommend it be turned off at the panel when starting, though. What's the reason??
No kiddin'!! I'm in FL right now (which gets plenty hot & humid), but I live north of you a bit (DFW area) and between June & August the AC gets a pretty good workout....
I beleive it has to do with the load that the compressor pulls (amperage) on start up. Probably better to turn it off before starting any vehicle. My opinion only. Have a Good Holiday!

X2...i agree 100%
First time i hear that i thought somebody was hiding on the outside of my passenger side door and just hit the door with a hammer! Took me a minute to relize it was the vacuum being produced and then causing the blend door to move.
