Did the Dana 60, 70, or 80 ever come in a 5 lug pattern instead of the eight? Personally I'm not aware of a 5 lug D60 or higher. I guy says there is one under a 1978 parts truck he has. My guess is IF it does have a D60 that someone has swapped it in there and somehow converted it to a 5 lug pattern. What do you think?
I've never seen one, nor do I know of a manufacturer of hubs that will fit with a wide five pattern, But that don't mean anything. Anything is possible, but until you can climb under there and find the 60 raised on the webbing next to the carrier housing, I'd be willing to bet that it's a 9" under the rear.
Yes, the Dana 60 came in Chrysler products in the 60s. In cars like Roadrunners with 440s, 426 Hemi's, any of the cars that came with Hemi's had Dana 60s. They were 5 lug, same pattern if memory serves as the 5 lug Ford cars.
There are also many hubs available from the aftermarket to convert 8 lug rears to 5, or even 6 lug, and still keep a full floater. Many off road guys run them with 15 inch wheels and disc brakes to get rid of the weight of the big old drums and not have to run 16.5" wheels.
Well...I got the axle removed from the truck today. I swear to god it looks like a hybrid 9" and D60 together. It has the outter drums and all from a 9" but it has the center section of a D60 or higher. These are the only numbers I have been able to find so far.
on the bottom it reads: 70 7NAT OR 70 ZNAT and below that it reads 580
on the drivers side edge it reads: 23 ABC
I'll try to get some pictures of it within the next couple of days and post them. I want to know what kind of rear this is.
