Ok...now that I have a Dana 60 rear I have a few questions to ask. This is the 8 lug style rear with HUGE drums. It was apparently used in a duale. Now is it possible to convert the 8 lug drums to 5 lug?? Which would be better for a 4x4...8 or 5?? If the 8 lug is a better choice what other front axle has the same 8 lug pattern and what kind of vehicle has these?? Thanks in advance
1978 F-150 flareside. Primitive by todays standards but she was a jaw dropper back then. :-staun
I dont think there is any way to make that rear a 5 lug but making your front an 8 lugs pretty simple. The 8 lug setups better with bigger brakes etc. anyway. Your 150 should have a dana44 front rear. You just need to find a similiar year f250 with a d44. Since 95% of the 250s have a 44 shouldnt be to hard to find in a junk yard or a parts truck. Then you just swap from the steering knuckles out to the hub onto your rear and you'll have your 8 lugs. I know plenty who have done this swap.
Good Luck Andy
One thing I just thought of if this is really a dually rear you put in it might be to long. That will involve swapping parts off a single wheel rear. But thats another story.
