The correct answer is they make no difference at all. Let's think about it. The aero front axle is locked in all the time, and it is no more dangerous than my F350 or Bronco or BroncoII with the hubs in the free position. A lockable hub only allows you to disconnect the driveline and save gas when coupled to a part time transfercase. The safty issue is when the differential in the axle is lockable because it causes the vehicle to go straight in a curve. We are getting lockers and lockouts confused here. RB

Having a manual locking hub in the locked position is functionally no different then having a live hub like the Aerostar already has, so arguments of increased joint or tire wear won't hold any water. Sorry, not buying it.

Right, we don't want to mix up locking hubs with locking diffs. I think that's where the confusion came in here...
