Hey guys, need your infinite wisdom here. I've got a 97 f350 e40d w/ 185000 on her. I was coming down a steep grade last night, shifting between 1st and 2nd, until i started to near the highway. while rolling to a stop at the sign, i shifted back into drive ( od off) while braking hard right before the stop. the truck stalled outright. no nothin except for a battery light on the dash. wondering if anyone has had this happen, or knows of this issue. Did it one time before on some switchbacks manually downshifting into 2nd with a truckload of people, not good. any input would help me alot!
Just before my transmission failed it started to do some very strange things. One that comes to mind was when I was in reverse, trying to back up a very SMALL grade. The engine stalled. Secondly, it started to slam hard when I would push the accelerator from a dead stop moving forward. The problem only got worse even with a fluid and filter change at 100.00 and my labor. I would get it to a tranny shop and have them look at it before you damage it more. BTW, my delay in doing so, cost me a complete rebuild WITH a new tranny housing as my rear bearing seized, fracturing my case.
I would also say that if that is your original tranny you have faired pretty well with that many miles on it.
Not to be stating the obvious (but I will anyways) Did you check your tranny fluid level?... If you have a leak (and it would have to be a pretty sizeable one at that) and lost 3-4 quarts (or more), the tranny will lock and stall the engine (don't wanna tell how I know this....)
