Please learn to read. Obviously you've tuned me out since my first post and missed several key things I have said since then. Since you missed it in post number 12, I'll put it in a quote box here:

quicklook, since I agree that I should not suggest to the average person here to time the engine by ear, it's only fair that you should agree that 10° is the only number worth telling people to use, sound ok? I really shouldn't let you guys ruffle my feathers, but it's borderline incompetent now.
The SPOUT connector is located near the driver side hood spring on 92-96 models, while it is near the distributor on 87-91 models.
i do it the correct way, spout out, 10 degrees for stock or 12 to 14 for a little more performance and than spout back in.
Did you forget suggesting 12 to 14 degrees is "the correct way"?
I suggested timing by ear as the way I like to get it done and get flamed all over the place. You suggest an obviously incorrect setting of 12 to 14 degrees and think it's alright because others have done it "for more performance". Such a double standard.
wow...useful stuff here....i've been battling this pinging in my 1994 f150 5.0 for a long time...tried everything to fix it...i put my timing on 12 degrees about 3 years ago and it ran perfect. Now by reading here...its seems that just one degree could possible throw it off and cause pinging. Now if it still pings at 10 degrees, is it bad to drop it maybe to eight degrees? Thanx guys
I don't know what it is under load, but the most I saw free revving the engine was around 32-34 best I can remember. Best I recall, the 5.0 mustangs run around 40-42 total timing, just to give some comparison.
Wow I thought 38 was high on our 351 stang. Looks like mine is about 35ish. It pings/spark knocks at the higher rpms with 87 Octane. You can run the ***** of it with 93 Octane.
Finally checked my timing on my 1994 5.0l truck...it was set at 12 degrees...I put it back to 10 degrees and bam! No more pinging...thats funny! Simple fix for a complicated problem...Thanx a bunch!
