i dumbed down my 89250 4x, w351 to a carb and distributor, it was not running when i got it so i dont know how long this has been going on. the deal is on first start it cranks and pops right off. subsequent attempts to start are very labored. i have a clear dist cap, and i watch as i try and start. what is happening is it will roll over one cylinder, pause, another cylinder, pause etc etc, then after 10 -15 seconds it finally starts to actually turn and then fire. ideas. also anyone know what wires i need to get the oil pressure temp and tach to read, do they go through the computer? or do i just want to buy a complete set of gauges from the aftermarket? thanks in advance. dan
What type of distributor are you running? The old ford duraspark II had a feature to retard the timing when starting to make the engine turn over easier. If you have the timing too far advanced, it will make it hard for the starter to crank it over.
