Last night on my way home, and fortunantly I was almost home, my dash lights went out. I wiggled the headlight switch and they flickered once and then went away for good. When I got home I found out that the running lights are also out. Everything else seems good. Headlights, turn signals and brake lights still work.
I checked the fuse and it looks good.
I am guessing headlight swtch, and have one ready to put in but I thought I would get some thoughts on other possibilities before I started throwing parts at the truck.
You need to check the wiring and the plug when you take the headlight switch out. Several people on here have had the tan/white wire burn in two, or the plug burn up. The tan/white feeds the running lights as well as the dashlight circuit.
i'm having a similar problem. where does that tan and white wire usually burn up at ? the switch or at a head light socket ? my dash lights wont work but the shift selector lights up and the heater control panel work. only when then light switch is turned all the way to the left. parking lights do not work also.

I replaced the switch and everything works. There is a little concern of why the plug on the back of the swith is so melted, but it could have been because the switch was going bad.
Now if I could just figure out my door locks!

Sometimes the connectors on the harness plug spread open and don't make good contact with the switch spades. If it burns another switch up, I think I heard you can buy a new plug with short pigtails from the dealer and replace the whole end.
