Maybe somebody knows something or where to check first. It was raining on the way to work today. So i started my wipers, but after about 5-10 min's the wipers started not to work right. It paused moved paused and did the wipe. I then turned them off and waited a 1min, started them again and they came on strong and then started to do the same thing after the second wipe. And i only have one setting on the wipers (fast). and that's the one that's not working. what you guys think is wrong? the motor? the switch? - the wipers worked fine the last time i took them out. but not it's like the motor's not getting juice or overheating. cause after i turn it off it works. what you guys think?
I'm not familiar with the Ford Module yet. But I became very familiar with GM's C/K series trucks. Wipers were erratic. Had to change the module on all mine. Sometimes several times on the same truck. GM never got it right. Parts dept. loved it!!!
My guess is to check the module first.
How ironic. My wipers have been doing the same thing lately and today I thinking that I ought to post a question so I know where to start. So if anybody has an idea, I'd also like to know where to look.
My '84 F250 6.9 wiper switch has settings for fast, slow or variable delay. I usually have to start them on the fast setting, which results in slow but continuous wiping. If I try to start them on slow or variable, they don't go at all. After I start them on fast for a few minutes, they will usually speed up and I can switch down to slow or variable and they will continue to work.
Hi
Sounds like the module. It most likley has A crack in A solder joint or maby more than one. It is not hard to fix. After you have it out take it apart and look with A Magnifer
look for bad solder joints or even parts that have came off the board. Anyway use A small pointed solder iron and resolder the spots you can see that need it. I have done this to mine. It has worked every sence. It was mounted on the E Brake bracket of all place's where it got A jolt every time you let the brake off. It is not mounted there anymore!! I dont know where yours might be. You did not say what year your truck is.
Mine is 88 Roy
Yup, my '90 F-350 had the same problem: no low speed and no delay, although high speed worked, as did the park feature when switch was turned off. The wiper governor was at fault. By now, you may have tried getting that bad boy out -- tucked way up under the dash behind the headlight switch.
I didn't try to fix mine, but considering the cost of a replacement (~$60), that probably would be worthwhile.
You have the typical intermitant wiper module failure. The good news is it is an easy fix. Follow the wires off the back of the switch down to the module. The module is located on top of the emergency brake pedal bracket. Once you remove the module open it up carefully. Inside is a circuit board with some electronic components and a couple of relays soldered to it. If you remove this board and flip it over you will find a broken solder joint on one of the relays. Take a soldering iron and resolder it. All Fixed
