Blackstone Questions.

I received my results back last night by E-mail and good news, They said i have a nicely wearing PSD and every thing is fine, well within averages, no problems.

My questions - What intervals are you all doing your Blackstone oil tests, every oil change ? or every other ?

Also, does anyone know if there a test for the antifreeze like there is for oil ?

Thank You, Mark.

I had Blackstone run mine every 3000 when I first started with them, but after I started going to extended oil changes, I now have them check every 5000, which is when I change my bypass filter. So far, all is well. Lube oil will never go beyond 18,000 in my engine, however, no matter what the results are.

Yes, I have Polaris Labs check my coolant. Google 'em. I think they're in Indianapolis.

I send them in at every change, mainly just to keep an eye out for fuel dilution.

I send mine in at 5000 miles every time, they tell me to change or keep going. The first two i changed the oil (4,000 once and 5,000 the next) and they said that they were both good for 6,000. I did the bypass filter install and i will take a sample and then send it in when i get to 5000

Pops, Thanks for the information for testing antifreeze.

Alan, Did Blackstone also tell you - ( The trace of fuel we found is hardly a problem and is likely from city driving/iding.) and is that why you are checking for fuel dilution ?

khris, Being that Blackstone says the universal averages are based on an oil run of 5,200 miles, and my results where good, I should be ok to run 5,000 miles instead of the 3,000 miles that i"m doing now. Do i really need to add a bypass filter to safely run 5,000 ?

Well, I was able to get a old grill from my buddy body shop and i tried to cut it with a dremel tool using a cut off wheel, But it made to much heat and caused the chrome to start to peel, I'm just glad i tried it on a old grill first. If you have a better way, Please tell because i"m really close to buy one already cut.

Put a bypass filter on there and you can safely go to 15,000 20,000 maybe even 30,000 with UOA confirmation. Have read many oil analysis reports on this engine and some with bypass up to 30K miles with very low wear and oil condition remains good with periodic filter changes. 3000 on these size sumps and this engine is just a rediculous waste even with no bypas filter and 5000 is still generally too short of an interval, unless you are only doing about 5000 miles a year. Blackstone will keep telling you to increase the OCI by 1000 miles if the report looks good. About the 7500 - 10,000 mile mark they might start telling you you need to change it.

I used a die-grinder with the cut off wheel. It melted pretty much everything behind it, but for some reason the chrome was unaffected. I used a razor knife to first score thru the chrome to prevent chipping. I may have gotten lucky, the chrome did come up in one spot, it probably the width of a pencil lead by about an inch of that. Its unnoticable, if i had to do it over again, i would have went even slower. My little compressor could not keep the wheel spinning long enough so i had to keep stopping instead of making one long cut. It took me somewhere around 5 hours to cut, im cheap so i just cut it but if i had the money i probably would have bought it. I just wanted to have the swap done cheaply as possible and it worked.

Haven't found any fuel yet, just doing them to keep an eye on things. Oil will never be in my truck longer than 5K so I do it to keep a trend line of the elements so I can head off an oring or copper washer problem before it causes a problem. I have seen were they say dilution can be caused by excessive idling or short trip city driving but 95% of mine is interstate 30-40 miles at a time.
