First Blackstone Oil Report

I just got the results back of my first Blackstone oil report and I'm very happy with it. 15w-40 and changed oil at every 5k. They extended my change intervul to 7k. My next report will be with 5w-40 because thats what I put in there this time.

Wow, that's great. I may send mine in for the second change from now to see. The oil cooler and the injector cups work will effect it I'm sure. Gonna wait for a good clean run.

Looks like Rotella is treating your 7.3 well. Wear metals are uniform and low, what is not to like. I suspect you could have gone well beyond 7k miles with that oil.

Good stuff.

I have seen that one, the Baldwin B50 IIRC. I am thinking of installing the Baldwin B164 (the larger version of that filter) on my truck and your UOA (and springer pop's) have sold me. According to the baldwin rep I talked to the B164 (and B50 and BT341) are all 15 micron absolute and 1-2 nominally, which is pushing what a lot of equipment can measure.

Now I am just need the time to install it....but that is OT.

Thanks again.

I went with the bigger filter and installed the B164 filter on it.

I am glad to see you got such a GREAT report. The first time I sent my oil in I was scared of what they may find and I was running 6500 miles on 15-40w. But I was told I could run 7k-7.5k if I wanted so I am going to bump it up to 7k maybe even 7.5k and see what they say. And I don't even run a bypass filter. So I am sure you won't have any problems going 7k and still get a clean report.

I was nervous on what they might find but now the monkey is off my back. I'll be nervous when I send the one from my X in.

Well I have a newb question: if the results come back, lets say "less than favorable", does that mean the engine is on the way out, or can some things be corrected, or symptoms be treated?

For example, I currently use regular rotella, but if i got a bad report, would t6 or delo help prevent further wear? Or, I'm assuming shorter change intervals would help as well. Since the topic is out there I'm curious what you all think.

Yea sending in the first oil sample is a little nerve racking. Do you have a oil bypass filter on the X too? If so I would wait to get 6500 miles on it and see what they say. Since you take sure great care of both the truck and the X I am sure even at 6.5k you will get a good report.

For the record, after I get everything back to 100% (injector cups replaced and IPR rebuilt) I'm going to t6. I just new this first change was going to be replaced as soon as the oil cooler and cups were fixed.
