Why do they call it a trip computer when all it does is sit there and tell you what you're mpg is from the last fill-up,the distance remaining, the temp and the direction I'm going..Is there something that I'm missing?? It doesn't even tell me the correct mpg, even after I have reset it. I reset it to the 12 mpg,I was getting around town and then went on a trailering trip and the mpg averaged 9.5 and the mpg only dropped .1mpg..It went from 12 to 11.9 after getting a tank of 10.99,8.5 and another of 9.67.
how long before the trailering trip did you reset the trip computer? It averages all of of the miles you've gone, so if its been a while, its possible that the trailering you did didn't really put a 'dent' in the average mpg.
haha, but on another note, wouldn't you rather be looking at a lie-o-meter that read 12.0 rather than 9.67
My trip computer always reads between 19 and 26, but when hand calculated, I am really getting around 14 (city driving). I have a 2001 7.3 psd with the Superchips programmer. I don't know if the programmer screwed up the mileage computer or not. At least the temp reading is usually right.
Mine works great. I reset it at every fill up while I'm pumping. The mileage starts out low and goes up as when I get out of the city driving. It has always been within 0.2 when I hand check it.
I held both buttons down for almost a minute while the vehicle was stopped. Tried this several times but no different....still says 13.7 MPG.
If in fact it is broken, how do I fix it?
I'd imagine it would be difficult to fix, because its a little integrated computer thing, but as far as resetting it, I assume when you mean you were stopped, the truck was still on... It only takes like a second for me to reset. Try just holding both buttons down while you are driving for a second, and see what happens
hey 017.3ex,
my 2000 psd also is equipped w/a superchips programmer and my average mpg reading is typically 10 mpg greater than actual. i guess i'll change the programmer back to the stock setting and see if it is more realistic (just for the heck of it).
cj and 017.3ex you are both correct about the chip changing mileage. After I fill up my computer tells me I have 900+ miles to go till empty. Best I have ever gotten on a long trip is 790 with a gallong or so to spare. It seems the mileage after 100 miles left ends up being half miles then 1/4 miles for each mile that is used on meter. I do avarage though with the chip probabaly around 13 around town and 17 highway. If I hti it hard it sucks like someone punched a hole in my tank with a tank.
