My 01 V10 4X4 Ex (80000 kms) has an occasional Klunk noise in the front passenger wheel area. Only happens once in a while; generally from a dead stop but occasionally when I make a sharp right hand turn. I'm going into the dealer for service on Tuesday --- any opinions on what the source may be ??
Ball joints, sway bar end links, or loose cab mount bolt. I would definitely try to verify that it is not one of the latter two before taking it to the dealer, they are both really easy to fix. It is pretty easy for the dealer to tell you it's ball joints and charge you for them when all they needed to do is tighten the cab mount bolt.
Thanks for the ideas; never thought to check the cab mounts . By the way do you stalk a certain kind of beer or are you more of a whatever's available you'll chase it kind of stalker?
Yeah I never would have though of it either, but my cousin did. I took my truck to the dealer to get the clunk fixed and they told me it was my ball joints and my brakes were bad. Not under warranty. So I took it to my uncle's shop and my cousin checked it out. Ball joints were ok, brakes were ok, tightened up the driver's side cab mount and the clunk went away. I was not very happy and called and gave the service manager a piece of my mind.
Usually Coors OG or Bud, but if there's a weak one slowing the herd down I'll thin it out (never pass up a free beer).

How about jacking up the front end, and giving the old girl the the old shake treatment? Should be able to determine any loose components. Given the age of the truck, you could have bearing troubles, or (as stated) possible ball joints, but drag links or tie rod ends can cause a little noise. U-olts have been known to provide some noise, so a decent check overall is a good thing.
Would not be suprised to hear that a hub is locked (even though the dial is pointed to free), and you are getting some noise from bad needle bearings, or something related to a spinning axle.
Verify that both axles spin freely before you spend any money on the 'dealership'.
I got a 02 V-10 4X4 and it does the same thing. I unhooked th sway bar and it still did it. Jacked up the front and every thing seems tight. Yesterday i got a wild hair and sprayed the springs and shackle bolts with wd-40. Now it's worse.
